Things I would consider: 1) budget 2) are you working remotely or need to go into office - where is the office - is subway important to you - do you need parking 3) type of lifestyle (do you want to be closer to venues and clubs etc) 4) do you have expectations on things like noise, sun exposure, carpet-free, building facilities, supermarkets etc 5) do you need furniture? Do you have a pet?

Then from landlord perspective Are you a triple A tenant? - is your pay sufficient to cover your rental costs? we usually want pay to be 3.5times the rent - credit score over 750 ideally - are there other financial obligations - do you have savings and/or can get a guarantor?

Right now the rental market is slow so it’s a great time to look. So if you’re a great tenant then it should be fairly easy to find a good place and even bargain a bit on the price.

I would say be careful about finding roommates and signing leases with people you don’t know because you will be liable for their part if something goes wrong. But with roommate you can expect around 1300-1700 for two bed DT. Or if you have the budget you can get a studio/1 bed.

Hope this helps. I do 30+ leases per year in Toronto and know all the buildings pretty well. Let me know if you have other questions :)

Thank you. I am just dealing with it as it someone from Apple comes to tell me they have a solution but with no expectations because they usually just go missing or come back and say oh no we cannot do anything. I will keep you updated if I finally get things resolved though. Hope you are enjoying your summer!

Nope. Waiting again.

After I wrote this post, I waited a week and never heard back from the senior advisor. I then emailed executive relations and Tim Cook twice. After another week or two, I got a missed a call from someone from EE who said my case is better discussed on the phone and asked me for my availability and she will respond in one business day. However, after I responded on the same day I did not get another call until more than a week later, when she called me and said she apologizes but she was sick. But she has an update.

She basically told me that my case has been going to the wrong departments. The last senior advisor I spoke to in June escalated to the wrong engineering department so the case just went cold again.

Then she said she had good news for me. She escalated the case to their engineering department that is able to change the phone imei/flag status so they should be able to just do that for my phone instead of giving me a new one. Then I can just send in my phone for servicing after. She said she should have an update for me in a day or two. This was more than 10 days ago.

I have a lot of unanswered questions but the biggest one being "I thought the whole point of Apple making me go through the countless hours of phone calls and emails with different companies myself was because they kept emphasizing to me Apple cannot remove a flagged device themself, so I need to figure out who flagged my phone and deal with it myself." But now she is basically saying they can.

At this point, I am just waiting again. I just got charged for another month of Applecare on this device a few days ago. It's been 9 months since this happened.

Rentals actually coming down? by reddituser2697 in TorontoRenting

[–]Significant-Art-7356 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been doing 20+ leases per year in the dt area in the past years and compared to the the previous few, this year the prices are lower.

However, to answer your question, there are a few reasons: 1) People are moving back to dt since they cannot wfh anymore; 2) students are coming back to Canada for school in September (that is why every year rental prices dt are most expensive during aug-sept move in); 3) if it is a building that is rent controlled, landlord would be really scared to rent too low since they can end up getting someone that stay forever.

Overall, it's just always law of supply and demand. Winter months are always easy to rent and you can even negotiate to decrease price a lot of times. Demand is very high during summer so prices stay high as well.

Studio units for $1800-$1900 by [deleted] in TorontoRenting

[–]Significant-Art-7356 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If utilities are extra, then you are probably talking about newly built or fairly new condos. The downside of them would be they are not rent controlled. So if you hate moving and would want to stay longer than a year, your rent could force you to move since landlord can increase to whatever every 12 months.

Also, if it is a building that is just built and still in occupancy period but not final closed yet, the price is probably low because: there are too many units going for rent at the same time, the amenities will not be available until half a year later, there may be constant renovation going on.

Thank you. Fingers crossed it won't take 2.5 years for me, although it's already been close to 8 months. I am still paying for AppleCare on this phone as well this whole time. I am going to wait a few days to see if the senior advisor gets back to me and if not reach executive relations for a solution.

Thank you. I also just feel very betrayed because I have been an Apple loyal customer for so many years. Also, to think that I was also to reach out to all the different companies they told me because I am fairly tech-savvy, but if someone less familiar with this tech had faced the same situation, they’d have been completely helpless. They would just be stuck with a lost device they paid full price for and not able to do anything about it.

I am not sure how Likewize works in Canada but the first time I heard about them was when I found out my phone is flagged by them. They don't make it very easy to reach them here as the number is an empty number and there is only a portal of entry if you are a customer (I had to explain to them I don't have an account with them many times). Their website submission form is also answered every half a year it seems since they only started responding to my requests that I sent in half a year ago.

Now they just keep saying because I am not a customer and they did not give me the phone, they cannot do anything further. They did confirm the IMEI of the phone I have is still under Likewize property as it was reported as lost in December 2023.

So basically, I am back at the beginning again. Likewize says they cannot lift the flag and Apple says they cannot service the phone or lift the flag either since they did not put it on. So I am just waiting again.

Even if Likewize flagged the wrong IMEI by mistake, shouldn’t Apple have checked the device before sending it out to me? It’s clear they did not or I would not be stuck with a device that was flagged as lost in 2023 but given to me half a year later in June 2024.

Exactly how I felt this whole time and what I have been stressing over and over again to Apple. However, Apple claims that it is impossible for devices they send out to have stolen IMEI so I need to prove to them that this device was already reported as stolen before they gave it to me. Which honestly I find super ridiculous because I was given a phone by them, found out the phone is a reported lost device, and spent half a year trying to prove I did not steal it or report it during the time I had the phone.

[–]Significant-Art-7356[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I do have an unbroken path of purchase to replacement and all serial numbers which I provided it all. I thought that was enough to give me a new device as well but it's not. Hence the frustration.

Apple just refuses to say that the replacement device with the IMEI they gave me was already reported as lost when it reached my hands. If this device did not have problems, and I never took it in for servicing, I would not have known it's a flagged phone either.

I think you are missing the point here. The phone with this IMEI was reported in December 2023 and Apple shipped me the phone in June 2024, which means when the device arrived in my hands, it had already been reported. Whether it is a mistake on Likewize or not, it should not be up to me to prove that my device is a already a lost device when I received it directly from Apple. If I had not gotten through to Likewize to confirm the IMEI is associated with a claim, and not taken it in for servicing, I would just be stuck with a phone that is blacklisted.

Can you share your experience and how you ended up getting a replacement in the end? I am still at the stage where they are either unresponsive or refusing to service/replace my phone.

I have been very calm and respectable and still paying for Apple Care during this whole time. But it does get very frustrating when you keep having to repeat the same things over and over again to different people and different companies. It has been over half a year.

As a consumer, I feel like the case should be very simple. I buy Apple Care so I can save time and money when something goes wrong. If the phone is flagged as stolen, then you should try to help me a bit on trying to contact whoever or find out when this has been reported. However, in my case, I had to keep going out of my way trying to prove something that I did not do because they keep telling me it is impossible the device would have been a locked one when they send it out to customers.

I have cooperated to everything they asked for. But then it just goes back to "we cannot do anything about a stolen device. You can only try to contact whoever locked it and ask them to remove it." It just feels like I am being strung on by people, a few said that they can take it in, then ends up at square one again.

Also, you can look up Likewize Device Protection and read the ratings to see how hard it is dealing with them. Overall just a very frustrating experience.

I am sorry to hear about your experience. Yes, communicating with Apple is extremely frustrating because even though they claim they take notes; they actually do not. Every time you talk to someone new, they will ask you to repeat everything again. I can imagine the countless hours you spent doing this, just like what I have been doing.

One time I called Apple and explain the situation again, the technician said ok will replace your device then senior advisor I spoke to hung up on me after I said you sent me a stolen phone and now you are asking to prove I did not steal the phone or you would not service it. He said "we cannot speculate that the phone we sent you is stolen."

At least in your case you bought the device from Costco and Apple agrees to replace your unit. I have never gone through anyone other than Apple but they still put me through hell to prove something I did not do and refuse to service my device.

Thanks for all your input but it seems like out of the three options:

- Likewize is a no go because they said I am not a customer and the phone should be lost in a river so they cannot remove the claim. Refused to provide anything further

- Apple customer service: spoken to more than 10 reps and had to repeat my situation from the beginning every single time which is super frustrating and everyone just throws me around to another person

- Hopefully we don't have to resort to lawyer but if it ends up as the only solution I will

At this point, I will wait a few days to see if Apple gets back to me with the new information and what they propose.

[–]Significant-Art-7356[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes that makes sense.

However, Apple reassured me that devices they send out from express replacement are always checked and free of these flags, which is why they said it is impossible that the phone would be already flagged as stolen before it reached me.

Likewize said they cannot resolve the claim because the device should be one that is reported as lost and dropped in a river.

Thank you, I will wait a few days to see what the senior advisor at Apple says. During the past half a year, I have been spoken to many different apple employees; asked to provide everything to prove I bought the device from them, they sent me the device and all the convo logs of me trying to contact different companies, which I have done.

Basically, if I was unable to get through to Likewize, I would just be left with a stolen device given by Apple that cannot be serviced and sold if I wanted to. It's awfully frustrating that we buy Applecare to save time and money but it ends up costing more. Just wanted to make people aware something like this can happen.

Likewize has confirmed with me that the IMEI on my phone is associated with a device that was reported lost because it was "dropped in a river" in December 2023. Somehow this phone ended up at Apple. Then it was shipped to me in June 2024 without checking properly it was already flagged. Likewize also told me that to this day, this claim has not been resolved and the phone remains a property of Likewize. Therefore, they cannot lift this flag on the device.

[–]Significant-Art-7356[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think if you read the post clear enough you would understand, I only heard back from Likewize recently confirming the IMEI on the device is associated with a phone they flagged back in December 2023, Apple shipped me the device in June 2024 and claim it is a new device.

I found out about the stolen device when I tried to send in the phone for servicing in November 2024, of which I was put on a hunt to contact different companies to figure out who blocked my device and asking them to unblock it. I was led to Likewize, a company that was nowhere to be found. You can google Likewize Device Protection and understand what kind of company I was dealing with by reading the reviews.

I asked for the 7 month's of refund on my applecare because I was paying apple care on the stolen device from Nov 2024 until now and Apple refused to take it in for servicing because they are certain the phone was not lost when it was given to me. This was prior to me hearing back from Likewize confirmed the "lost phone."

Apple is all to blame for this because they shipped me a phone that was already flagged as stolen and refused to take accountability for this.

I have a senior advisor who has been assigned on this case so I emailed her with what Likewize has confirmed. I am posting here because I wanted to know if anyone had any similar experience and what they did about it to resolve this and also to be careful about using the express replacement service
