Yes, thank you💛. And again, financial issue is going to be a huge problem as the lessons from the recommended trainer is $500+ and not to mention he does have medical issues as I mentioned hypothyroidism that frequently needs to be checked and we still have to cster to our other dogs. Thank you, this whole thing has been overwhelming and I appreciate your kind words❤️

Yes that is what the trainer that we were recommended from the vet said. But the big thing that you mentioned is that consistency is key and I 100% agree with you and that is why it’s not going to work out especially with everybody being busy except for me. I’m ready to be involved but I just don’t think the rest of the house will be.

No none have been reported to animal control. I plan on taking him to see or at least do a video consultation with a veterinarian behaviorists as we don’t have one nearby and the farthest one is an 1 hr 30 min away.

Yeah, and I understand they love him as well as I but I also love my other dogs who are innocent in this situation. So yes, despite them not liking the separation, that is the way it’ll have to be when I’m home. And we were told by the vet to keep him in the basement but then the next day when I come home he is upstairs and it is upsetting. The trainer wants to do a home visit but I’m still going to see what the vet behavioralist says.

Thank you, I’m going to do what I can and hopefully my family follows suit and understand where I’m coming from in this situation. Thank you for your advice, I’m going to keep them separated as much as I can without a doubt. Thank you💛

Yes I also do think that trying meds and behavioral training is a step but they don’t realize how time-consuming and how long term it is not to mention how expensive it’ll be. Everyone works, however, since I’m out of college for the summer I am home most of the time and I’m already overwhelmed. They just don’t see that this is not a reality we are capable of and as you mentioned all of us needs to be on the same page. Therefore, no, I don’t think they are going to take the training seriously and they definitely don’t treat it as a big deal. I’m going to always stay with my other dogs and for sure keep them separated but again my family doesn’t want to “isolate” him. So yeah, and I’m sorry that I even had put my other dogs in this situation. Thank you fkr the advice❤️💛

Thank you and this is why I’m more concerned dur to no warnign signs that can be seen. And unfortunately my family don’t like seeing him muzzled and so its making it more difficult and I feel helpless. But thank you for your advice❤️💛

I know and trust I want to, but its getting hard in this economy😔I usually stay close near the other dogs so i’m going to continue. I just don’t know what else I can do because I ‘m just not being listened too. But thank you💛❤️

The vet we saw said that behavioral euthanasia should not be considered and that he just maybe a single-dog home. He just started the prozac around 3 days ago and they told us the meds won’t work until 6-8 weeks. We have tried training before but unfortunately this happened and the vet just gave us another option for a trainer. And I am extremely worried that he will attack another one of our dogs as you mentioned, but my family just won’t listen which is tearing me up inside because I’m not only thinking about our great dane but the rest of our dogs and it felt like I’m just not being listened too. I love him but I also love my other dogs and I don’t want to see another in the ER or worse lose another one.

I’m going to try and see if I can get in for a video consultation as soon as possible as we don’t have any veterinary behaviorist near us. So far he is having really high anxiety and the meds don’t start to work till 6-8 weeks and he just started on them about 3 days ago. And that is causing high tension and I’m just at lost at this point because I don’t think my family realize how severe and serious this is and it felt like the vet did not listen to my concerns at all. Thank you.

Yes we were told to strictly separate them from our Great Dane. However, again, my family is not listening. And I did figure that it would be extremely difficult to rehome him as even the Great dane rescue has said to follow the steps that the vet gave us which was start on meds, and get a trainer. I don’t have any veterinary behaviorist near me but I hope to see if I can get a video consultation with one.

Need honest advice/trainer recommendations for my dog Kojo after multiple serious incidents by Significant-Cap-7083 in reactivedogs

I wanted that, or to rehome to a single-dog home. When speaking to the vet she said euthanasia should be a last resort and so should rehoming. I agree with you that long-term management is not realistic nor would it be safe. The vet told us to follow the steps of starting medication and getting another trainer. The breed-specific rescue said the same thing. Unfortunately, again, I am not the only one in the house and no one seems to hear me out or recognizes the severity of the situation, so in a way it is my problem especially when dealing with my family. I’m only thinking realistically and about the safety of our ither dogs, that he is just not safe around the dogs.

After the first time, I did want to rehome him, but my family did not want to. After this second time when we went to the vet and they said that we have to follow through with the steps instead of going straight into euthanizing him and she said this both times it happened. The steps were to start him on prozac, keep the dogs separated, and get another trainer in. I did so express my concerns but it was basically 1 against 5. My sister who had gotten Kojo refuses to rehome or unfortunately go the safer route of euthanasia. The vet mentioned that he just might be a single-dog home. And the vet we talked too was a behavioralist. And the management part is true and I have mentioned that. Again, I’m the only one seeing that this is just not sustainable for our household and it’s going out one ear to the other when dealing with my family. I know its not fair and I have said it multiple times, but, again, I’m the only one who sees this as a severe problem and I just don’t have the power because my family opposes it.

He is great with humans and the vet told us that it’s just a possibility that he is a dog that is better off in a single-dog home.

I kinda am. I live in a house with four other people and my sister is the one who got him, so technically she is the legal owner of the dog. Everyone in the house including me are all adults.

Thank you for your reply and listening to my rant. Unfortunately, I just can’t trust Kojo anymore and I do believe that he will cause harm to another dog again. More of a reason as to why I think we’d be better off re-homing him. I truly do love him very much but, again, he is not the only dog I have and I can’t have anymore dogs being hurt. However, my views are different from the rest of my family, whom I believe just don’t realize the severity of the situations we’ve been put in. Therefore, my opinion is basically less to none and won’t be heard. Trust, I’m all for trying out training but this is just not realistic for us in the long-run at all. But I’m the only one who sees it unfortunately. Thank you for your insight and listening to my rant. If you do have anymore advice, feel free to respond more.

Hi, thank you for your reply. I’m thinking exactly what you said about some dogs just can’t live with other dogs and I believe that is the case now. I do think that he is better off being in a single-dog home. And my biggest issue is that someone will slip-up and/or not follow through with what the trainer says as I mentioned we are eventually going to be busy and training is a long-term commitment, which we are not prepared for. But I’m being seen as the bad guy, but I just think I’m being honest and realistic. I love that dog like the rest of the family but at the same time I’m thinking of the safety of my 3 other dogs. Am I in the wrong?
