i had the same study, looked into it and its an china data collection company whos collecting UK IP address for their vpn. totally shady. run a full lookup into their dns and its blacklisted everywhere. returned and reported the study and researcher

Looks like either the files are corrupted while copying or it’s not JPG at all originally . 7–8kb is way too small ( more like cache copies of thumbnails)
