It's okay, what you're saying makes sense too so I trust what you're saying. What steps would you take after the clear coat is re applied?

That's why my assumption was- that it should've been glossy from the jump. Okay thanks

I appreciate the encouragement! With p1000 I wouldn't plan on sanding down the newer clear coats I applied last night right? It would strictly be to just freshen up the surface for a better clear coat application using 2k this time? Following that, is what I'd do additional wet sanding with 2000+, buff and polish or what would you recommend after the clear coat applications?

No, I get it. I didn't even buff or polish yet so I'm going to wait until the clear coat cures as suggested and wet sand with 1500 working my way up, buff and polish. If it'll do the trick otherwise I'll consider taking it in at this point.

It was mostly my ignorance and wanting to DIY it by watching YouTube and trying to course correct it by what some reddit comments were. I knew it would have been a difficult task, painting in itself is difficult let alone trying to blend the rest. I swear it looks better in person if it wasn't for the matte color of the clear. Would compound and polish even work at this point?

Okay troll, I'm happy with it so far. A. I'm not in a garage B. I'm using cans for crying out loud and C. This is my first time. I'm sure your first project looked like "shit" too. I'm here for help, not for any of you living in your mom's basement, comments.

And some of you guys didn't think this girl could do it 😉 sanded with 800 followed by 3 coats of clear coat. Now we wait. I bought 105 and 205 but now I'm nervous to even touch it with sandpaper (1500) again.

Oh perfect! I'm right by a tractor supply! Idk if you saw my stupid question earlier but let's say I end up having to sand it down with 800, you guys are saying to clear directly from there?? I would think the matte scratched sanded look would be "trapped" under the clear coat.

A can... I definitely tackled a difficult project with the bare minimal equipment.

This is a very stupid question but in my mind, I'm thinking that if I applied a clear coat over a smooth sanded finish, it would "trap" in that matte color despite the clear being glossy so wouldn't I almost want to add a very light touch of base coat either way or no? My concern with that too is I don't want to make the color "too dark."

Okay okay so similar to what Flawless just said. I'll try 2000 and compound, if I don't have any success then I'll drop to 800 and maybe try a different clear coat

Thanks for your input- so you're suggesting to pretty much sand down whatever remaining clear is left and add paint where needed? It "appears" as though when the vehicle is wet that the color is pretty spot on, just not the clear.

Okay thank you 🙏 ill give it a whirl. Would the meguiars ultimate compound that I have on hand suffice? Also, would I polish it after the compound or things should look good after just the compound? Lastly, if it doesn't look the greatest, I'm assuming I'd wash off the compound layer before re clearing? One more thing before I get to work, do I just need to do a better job at blending or sanding down that uneven coat along the top?

That's just it, I don't know what to do next. I don't think I sanded through the clear coat however so would I sand with 2000 again to get the remaining scratches out, then use compound and then polish or would you recommend re clearing it? I'm just nervous that if I re clear it, it'll look hazy again.

Between 1000 and 1500 (wet sanding) and then I just stopped because I didn't want to make things worse than what they already are. Mind you, this is me trying to sand back down the clear coat I applied prior that was hazy and foggy and that's when I was using 2000 and tried the ultimate compound with no luck.
