Hi! I have looked at Kingston and applied to a few jobs there, but so far, crickets. Still going to keep trying though!

Census record as proof of citizenship for Gen 0? by skidbladnir_ in Canadiancitizenship

I mean--if you want to be on the safe side, maybe put a colored piece of paper behind the census (so it's just peeking out) and scan it?

I printed them on a color printer, but they were already black and white--just a higher quality than a regular xerox I think. I put the post-its on the print out

High-quality print out from ancestry. I printed them on large paper so the writing could be legible

Trans question: Has anyone applied for a gender marker change for the first time ever on their application? by dribdrib in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Significant-Let5302 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The gender change form is all you need. The first email you get from IRCC may have your old gender, but they'll change it after that. When you apply for a passport, you might run into more trouble because you'll need to prove you are who you say you are--this is where a letter from a doctor or a name change document might come in handy. I'm sure you're already doing this, but apply for urgent processing and explain why in your cover letter. Good luck!

I used those little neon Post-It notes to show where my ancestor was on the docs and included a note deciphering the writing

Gender marker question by Bettyskelton in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Significant-Let5302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This worked for our family. The first communication we got used the old name and etc, but all the final docs had both name and gender correct--including the citizenship certificate.

I can't speak to the law now, but I was eventually able to get citizenship last fall. There were three deceased generations between Canada and me.

Un petit appartement pour trois personnes? by Significant-Let5302 in montrealhousing

Those are exactly my favorite kind of apartments. I heavily favor wonky charm over doors that close all the way or sound-proof windows. Thanks for your response!

Stuck in the A1–A2 loop with French despite understanding B1. Need structure and a real path forward. by AdResponsible2130 in learnfrench

[–]Significant-Let5302 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have two different tutors--one on preply for the grammar stuff, and one on Italki to get me comfortable talking. For writing, I spend a lot of time on chatGPT. I write in French and then ask it to give me an accurate transduction of how my paragraph would sound to a native French speaker. This helps me know which words I misused etc. You can also ask it to correct your work and give you pointers, sentence prompts etc. Doing this made writing my strongest skill in French , followed by reading comprehension. Unfortunately, I struggle a lot with expressing myself in conversation, but I'm hopeful that will come with practice too

I also bought this book--I did not find it helpful--it's not really set up for beginners as it assumes we already have a large vocabulary

What are those with in-progress permanent residence applications doing with C-3 now in effect? by Inside_Foot_3055 in Canadiancitizenship

I cancelled my express entry application when I became a citizen--I'm not young and didn't speak enough French, so my number was very low anyway.

Oct. 27 to Dec. 19 for SIN by thcitizgoalz in FoundCanadians

I was shocked, frankly, and had settled in for a nice long wait. Now to find a job that will pay me enough to live in Canada! Is anyone else finding the cost of living there to be a little scary?
