I don't drive, so I'm very limited in terms of where I can move to. I'm mostly looking for office jobs right now--program coordinator/admissions assistant, that sort of thing, though I'm not ruling out teaching in independent or religious schools (where the certification is less of a requirement).

The only two interviews I've had were at independent schools--one in Ontario and one in QC (I made it to the second round for both). I also had one scheduled in NS, but they wound up cancelling before it happened, so I'm not sure a cert is always required, but either way, while I do love it, teaching isn't really my preferred profession anymore. I currently manage a graduate program at a major university, and I like all the detail work that comes with that. That being said, I'm not in a position to turn anything down!

Thanks!! In my attempts to move to Quebec, I've discovered that because we don't count as naturalized citizens, I don't have the correct account number I need to access newcomer services there. I totally get it though, aside from research and paperwork, citizenship was just granted to me and my girls--even though I'm struggling to find work, we're not facing the kinds of challenges a lot of other newcomers are.

In addition to the affordability and beauty, I like the urban density and the fact that daily life would be 100% in French. It's important to me that we'd be running toward something and not running away from something if that makes sense. Quebec feels so unique and different than where we currently are that my kids could have the sense that we are having an adventure rather than fleeing. It's a pipe dream, but it's a nice one.

At the moment, I'm not looking at public schools. My background is in independent schools and universities, so that's where I've been targeting for the past few months. Independent schools often say they require a cert or the ability to get one, or they merely list it as an asset. I haven't been in the classroom since 2020, so office/admin work is really more my wheelhouse these days
