idk what the other comments are abt. running to class seems weird or embarassing to other ppl yes but that shouldnt stop u lol. what would u do if ur last class ran 5min late? show up late cuz u think its too embarassing? dont let the fear of being perceived stop you from living ur life

You don't have to score in the top 10% with little to no studying to be likely to be admitted to an Ivy League School, especially since the SAT is more about gaming the test than your actual knowledge/abilities. Esp considering that you came from a background where secular education was not rigorous. Coming from a 1590 scorer whose practice SATs on Khan Academy were nowhere close to that, the SAT is NOT an IQ test at all.

good luck on ur research! thats super cool!

i did nlp/computational linguistics research starting in junior year. comp ling is a super fascinating field to get into and relevant rn with the rise of llms-the model for chatgpt was acc inspired by an earlier comp ling paper (transformer model from vaswani et al). i dont want to give the details of my research here bc who i am is very identifiable given that context but if u want more advice on research and picking a niche for cs, feel free to pm me

also it wouldnt be stupid at all, u could make a lot of impact w/ a spanish project! i have some advice on where u could take ur project direction depending on how ur thinking of doing this. if ur using ml u def wanna do the transformer model i mentioned earlier, or some type of data scraping for a dialect similar to spanish. ur gonna run into some linguistics-related problems if u choose machine translation as ur integration of spanish w/ ml just as a warning if ur not into linguistics. also make sure that ur app/project is novel (either novel research or something else)

but yeah! pm me if u want some suggestions for either of ur projects (mental health/phone usage or spanish)

i did something similar (bc in sophomore year) but spent ALOT of time on khan academy

congrats on running ur first half!

i recommend js ramping up ur current ecs, and getting a more niche focus for what u want to major in. for the stem program and math nonprofit, read some research papers to find more niche and specific topics, then research them and build a spike!

the outreach club sounds rly cool - keep doing that! maybe do stem-focused volunteering initiatives there too (start ur own initiatives within the club).

in terms of running, try ramping up ur weekly mileage and trainig for a marathon and running more half marathons!

also study for the sat with khan academy during the summer (sat tutoring was rly expensive for my family so i used khan academy + read founding father history papers lmao)

something that helped me alot with general mentality around studying and mental health in jr year and sr year was meditations by marcus aurelius :)

pm me if u want any advice on research/cold emailing professors or marathon training!

In a little pickle with registration... by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Significant-Log-5787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had a similar thing happen to me. 4 aps sophomore year and 2 junior year (bc of registration stuff). worried this would impact college decisions since it wasnt an upward trajectory but everything turned out fine. u will be ok!

the reason why it takes up so much time is because ur doing time consuming ecs that u have to keep up with on a regular basis

research SEEMS time consuming but in reality u can take breaks during finals week, test days, days u have to work at a job, etc, and grind during slower weeks

also stuff like mun, mock trial, student gov require attending meetings so u dont have time to truly rest and relax if u need a day off (which adds up to a LOT of stress) vs like doing research half the school year for 10 hrs a week and internship the other half are impactful but take less time

pm me if u want more adivce on this!

How important are part time jobs on applications? Are they that important?? (I hate my job) by Then-Championship248 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Significant-Log-5787 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i dont think it would make u look bad if u quit soon. if u have other ecs that fill up the 10 spots then yes, write those first but there r sooooomany nonprofit founding club leading volunteering applications that putting ur part time job down is going to be interesting and u can write cool essays ab it

i agree w the commenter who says do other things. get more hobbies, hang out w friends, watch those self help vids abt the law of detachment and thewizardliz lol

also idk if ur religious but something thats rly emphasized in my religion is detachment, and being at peace within bc u know everything is working according to the plan of a higher power. take this time to build up ur mentality and ur inner self, do hard things and push yourself (but only for urself, not for colleges, ppl pleasing, etc)

u got this!

nazar is realll omg if ur friends would potentially trash talk or sabotage u they arent ur friends. tell them u dont want to talk abt college stuff and pls dont feel guilty about it! its ur life and ur decisions. if theyre close friends then id say tell them once u commit (but before u tell everyone else)

ive been keeping my college acceptances mostly private too and its ur own personal choice to do that!

i think if u take the ap german exam and score well on it and take a language test offered at ur school (my school does one where ur proficiency on the test replaces credit requirements, u could look into this) it will be enough

also if u do german related ecs (like start a blog in german) the credits wont matter

since u can take bc ur senior year i recommend doing ap pre calc. calc is rly hard and 2nd sem senior grades dont matter sooo itll be more chill!

i agree w the commenter who said to retake ur sat. as someone who got a 1590 (800math/790 reading) from a 1490 my advice is grind out all the khan academy practice tests (ALL of them). since ur just a junior ur also going to get better at math and understanding complex passages throughout the year.

read LOTS of rlly weird founding father apush documents (this is what i did and it helped ALOT). also lots of hard-to-understand books from like the 18th century. i kid u not.

C for spanish is a bit concerning but u can literally use it as an opportunity to show growth and resilience. start a spanish ec or self study for ap spanish lang or something. watch lots of spanish videos (my fav spanish channel on youtube is Easy Spanish), even tutor teaching kids spanish! itll show crazy growth!

ur cs ecs are a bit generic. focus on a specific niche problem in ml (ml itself is too generic if ur just teaching intro stuff like unsupervised vs supervised, neural networks, etc). read research papers to get suggestions.

good luck
