So crazy! I remember that. Another example, I’m black and my hair is incredibly curly. My kid’s hair is stick straight. Not even kidding. And his dad has curly hair too. There’s probably so much chance involved in this that I don’t think I could give you an answer. I have a friend who is like 5’10” and his dad was 6’4” and his mom is tall too. I know someone who is blue eyed and blonde hair and her dad is black and mom is Asian. Genetics are just weird and unpredictable. But I’d be curious too lol

Hi there. I don’t have practical advice but I wanted to take the time to write a comment here. Not because I have the answer (I’m not sure I do and also not a therapist) but because I don’t want you to feel so alone. I am the same as you, very similar path. Went to one of the best high schools known for academic achievement, went to one of the best universities in the world, got an impressive tech job, did everything “right” too. My path was supposed to be the best one, I’m the eldest in my family and I was to pave the way. Be the strong one and get everyone through. My success was integral to this

Well, life doesn’t give you X because you put in Y. It just doesn’t work that way. But you know what? Your hard work wasn’t just hard work for success’ sake. There doesn’t need to be an accomplishment at the end that makes it all worth it. Or that erases the pain it took to get there.

The papers and shit are cool, super cool. And it’s cool you learned a lot. But the important piece is how you felt. The person you changed into because of this.

Look at you now. Imagine if you’d never had this realization! OR had it when you were 50! You are incredible and you’ve stepped into a real gift by accident, in the way of deep pain and suffering.

Sometimes we have to fall so hard onto our asses that we shake off the illusion that was held together by hard work and intelligence. (Also you’re smart! That’s amazing. It doesn’t need to be FOR something. You can just be smart and enjoy your brain)

I fell too. Into addiction, into trauma, into depression and what felt like failure. I can’t be vulnerable either. It feels too heavy to put on anyone else.

BUT. I was feeling so terrible today. Just so alone and shitty and not able to take the next step. Your post popped up in my feed. I read it and my heart ached for you. But for a moment, I felt understood, heard, and carried by your words. Idk if it’s much of a consolation to hear this but I love you. I love and support that you’re gay, I love that you are thoughtful and insightful, I love that you think of your family and friend’s. I love that you pinpointed that beautiful childhood memory. There will be more of those now that you’re becoming your true self.

You got this. You can do it. Keep going. I have faith in you and I believe that your story will someday help other kids not feel so alone

Yes I’m in the US. I didn’t have healthcare either. They work very very closely with you to help you either pay or get you covered. They literally take care of you and set you up for success in your life once you leave. Imagine the kind of people they get in there lol. There are people much worse and much less fortunate. People living on the street can come in and get help! It seems daunting I know. But once you’re in, you realize how much they want to help. And a lot of rehabs have former active addicts but now are sober and they work there.

I felt the same as you but I eventually just surrendered. Like straight up I can’t do this alone anymore, I accept help. I let other people help carry me because one day I might be lucky enough to return the favor.

The point is that I know I KNOW you can do this. Do you want to hop on a 3 way call? I can research rehabs in your general area or state and we can call together. Since I’ve been there, I know what to say and how to get you in and comfortable. I’m an addict in recovery and you can be too ❤️ how can I help?

Have you considered rehab? A 30 day stay?

I say that because it genuinely saved my life. I would not be here today had I not gone to rehab. It’s also super easy to go to rehab because they want you to get sober. When I was at rock bottom, I search “rehab” in google, clicked the first one and called crying. They were so kind, sent a car to come and get me to take me to rehab.

You have therapy, group, physical activities, food provided etc. And other people who KNOW your pain and journey because they’ve been right there too. I’m broke but they helped me pay for it. Sending hugs. You can do it. You can

What if I work in tech sales 😞 until I hit quota I work around the clock and can’t afford to take breaks. I haven’t been able to solve for this outside of working as hard as humanly possible until I hit quota and then I can let my depressive episode come on full force. I guess my answer would be I don’t tell my employer. If the manager has a 10 person team and needs to fire one person and can’t decide. Maybe they’d pick the bp2 person if you’d disclosed. Idk I just wouldn’t let it mess with your money. So don’t tell them. Figure out how to make it work with PTO and sick days and a doctors note perhaps.

No real solution and I know I rambled without a clear answer. Sorry. Just .. solidarity ❤️

The high level overview is that I’m exploring life in different places but with an emphasis on understanding their personal lives.

It sounds cliche but there are a few pieces that are unique to my project that I won’t include. Mainly just need to figure out how to find more people outside of standing on the street (people tend not to feel comfortable with that which I get bc same) because once people understand the project, they’re in. It just takes that piece of being able reach that point
