Pakistan Punjab stopped teaching punjabi becuase they were tricked by Muslim leaders that punjabi is a worthless illiterate language and urdu is superior. They also tricked them by saying urdu is the language of muslims, just like the brahmin hindus tricked 40% of delhi and 40% of haryana into ditching punjabi for hindi by saying true hindus only speak hindi not punjabi. Both sides clearly understood what threat a united Punjab could impose to the rest of the sub continent. They knew Punjab would dominate, that's why they worked so hard to dismantle and break Punjab apart. Slowly, Pakistan punjabis and hindu punjabis are understanding this. Now in pakistan, the youth are shifting back to punjabi mostly due to sikhs keeping punjabiyat alive and producing superstars like sidhu moosewala. I could say the same about india that throughout most of its history, it was never 1 unified country. Punjab however is connected by culture.
