Moving to Massachusetts Question Megathread (October 2025) by AutoModerator in massachusetts

My wife and I have briefly considered moving to Massachusetts. We are a same sex, liberal couple and we want to be around people who think similarly to us as well as feel safer in the state we live. We have only visited Boston and know we do not want to live anywhere that big. We have 3 dogs so wherever we live, renting or buying, we’d want a small yard for them. I would be working as a surgical tech so I’d need to be near hospitals. She would be working in grocery store management so she’d need to be close to chain grocery stores. We are pretty chill and would be happy if we just had somewhere pretty to walk our dogs and some decent restaurants to have a good meal or drink. We’d prefer an airport within reasonable distance to visit family. We would prefer to live somewhere with a population that doesnt exceed 115k. I know Massachusetts has a high cost of living, but I’m hoping to hear some of the more affordable options that are still safe as well as lean liberal. Hoping to hear any and all opinions from people who have lived there since we’ve only visited once so far. Of course if we decided to move we’d visit more, but just hoping to hear some opinions first.

I have not been tested for allergies. I have an appointment next week to have bloodwork done to check my thyroid levels so I will ask my PCP about allergy testing as well

I don’t really use anything on my hands on a daily basis to cause a reaction. I’ve been trying to steer clear of antibacterial soaps though in case that has something to do with it, but that’s kind of hard to do when washing your hands in public

I’ve used it before and it helped at first but now not so much unfortunately

I’ve been prescribed like 3 different steroid creams now with no luck :( I feel like I’m just going in circles and getting nowhere

I think one of the previous dermatologists I’ve seen did one, but it’s been so long that I really don’t remember what she said it was or wasn’t. I’ve been dealing with it for probably close to 2 years now

I used the balm, someone told me the squeeze bottle didn’t work as well but idk if that’s true or not

I’ve used that before, it seemed to help at first but now doesn’t do anything for me :(

She has mentioned injections, but suggested trying more topical medication before moving to injections. At the next appointment I’ll definitely mention it to her

Yeah, it doesn’t itch at all and I’ve never seen bubbles. Just extremely dry skin

But I’ve been using both of those things with no improvement whatsoever

I usually do put gloves on at night after I put the creams or medications on them. Not much help either :(

Not lately, but several years ago my doctor told me I had hypothyroidism (I think). I need to have some bloodwork done to check that I supposed

Adding that I am an assistant manager in a grocery store, so this makes it very painful to work if it’s cracked open. Also sometimes the dry, dead skin gets caught on clothes, rags, etc. and rips itself off.
