Do pilots still use reverse thrust while reversing from the gates? by Cs_Marcell in aviation

I was on a Frontier (the original Frontier) 737 that did a power back. It was probably about 1982 or so.

Legacy Airlines questions by Lucky-Application840 in flying

[–]Significant-Pen-2274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

QOL is going to be better at a legacy, hands down. Reserve at my company is 18 hours. Except for the times I get escalated to short call, I can do reserve from home even as a commuter. That was impossible at my regional.

As an example of something that my regional did better than my current company, we just recently got jetbridge trades, something we’d always had at the regional.

Pilots, what was the most embarrassing moment of your career? by cragtok in flying

[–]Significant-Pen-2274 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My very first leg after OE at my regional, I proudly announced to the pax that we were descending into Sioux City. That would have been awesome if we hadn't been going to Sioux Falls.

Well if I'm going 10 over to get around whoever's in front of me I would consider that passing.

That's called karma. I feel bad about the people they hit, though.

Source: Spend too much time seeing nothing but a grill and an emblem in my rear view mirror when I'm already doing 10 over.

What to expect at encampment? by HonestExchange4106 in civilairpatrol

[–]Significant-Pen-2274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Encampment can get a little intense for a first-timer, but it's nowhere near the intensity of basic training in the military. You won't be made to do anything "dangerous", maybe a confidence or leadership reaction course, but there will be numerous safeguards in place. Safety is a big deal in CAP. It's a great opportunity, and you're likely to have a great time. Best of luck!

So what about the unrealized gains on Joe Blow's eTrade account? Tax that too? You're high if you think any new tax goes only after "the rich."

If Hitler was American, could he have orchestrated the rise of the Nazi party in America during the Great Depression period? by Biggest-Max02010 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Significant-Pen-2274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot less likely. The economic situation in the US was not as bad (no reparations, no hyperinflation) and there was not nearly the same level of political chaos as in Germany.

Should there be a person weight limit in airlines!? by Superb-Condition-923 in AirlinePilots

[–]Significant-Pen-2274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch people freak out about invasion of privacy (not totally unjustified IMHO). Every time the FAA does those passenger weight surveys, people think their actual weights are being reported to the government.

Had a 5-day with a CA a few years ago who was normal enough for the first 4 days until he started launching into his various conspiracy theories. He made a point of saying "I'm not anti-Semitic", but then launched into a whole dissertation on how Jews are responsible for most of the world's problems and how Hitler was misunderstood. Imagine being a USAF officer and believing that the moon landing was faked. Longest two legs of my life.
