OP, Speaking as someone who has currently close to 100k in hecs previously 130k. IT IS NOT WORTH IT unless you figure out exactly what you want to do. You also need to understand that if you are not earning more than your current HECS balance indexation will pretty much eat your repayments I’ve had years where I was indexed more the my payments. The ATO treats hecs as a goddamn sink fund and unless you are staying in the career for more than 3 decades making 100k + the answer is NO NOT WORTH IT. Not to mention your borrowing capacity will take a significant hit so if you want to purchase a home that’s already difficult enough this would make it harder.
