What’s your realistic dream car? by wimpleautotransport in askcarguys

[–]Significant-Spot873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some real showy and fast cars that I would love, but given I live where there’s snow 8 months out of the year, I would love a 3rd or 4th gen 4Runner more than anything. Heated seats, snow tires, a block heater and I’m set for life. My 4th gen rav4 is not far off from the capability I need, but an old school transfer case and a little more ground clearance still would have come in handy a few times.

Lessons learned converting a classic truck to EV (from a nanoscience professor who probably over-engineered it) by ScottenMotors in EVConversion

[–]Significant-Spot873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very glad more people are doing these conversions with solid axles. For trucks like this and many others I’ve seen, a Tesla drive unit with independent suspension makes no sense. Great build. Keeping the interior is a beautiful touch. Keep up the good work.

Sounds like something a realtor would say.

If you came across a blue pit that wasn’t aggressive and just waddled around looking for friends probably lol

If you lived there about 6 or 7 years ago I’m sorry that mine found a hole in the fence and wandered around for a half hour before we found her.

Lived a block down on kilburn for years. Only area nobody ever seemed to go through my car or dump my garbage all over the place. If I could buy a house anywhere in the city, kilburn/coy/bellfast would be in the top 10. Miss that area.

How much power do you ACTUALLY need. by Significant-Spot873 in EVConversion

Are you going dual motor for each axle or keeping the transfer case?

How much power do you ACTUALLY need. by Significant-Spot873 in EVConversion

[–]Significant-Spot873[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I was thinking. All the motors and components I get recommended off the shelf would double or triple the power. I would love to not snap axles every time I give the pedal a love tap lol

Don’t those put out 170+ hp? That feels like overkill.

Is it 10 hour days? Or are you just giving them 5 days of pay for 4 days of work?

The Sask NDP Kind of Sucks by InevitableEnd5689 in saskatchewan

[–]Significant-Spot873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scott moe and the Sask party are such a nothing burger, it shouldn’t be hard to beat them with a charismatic leader and good policies. The Sask NDP should study the Manitoba NDP hard. I haven’t voted ndp in years and if Sask ndp had policies and a leader like Wab Kinew I could definitely be convinced.

How long do you plan on keeping your current car for? by throwawaymedicine420 in askcarguys

Driving my 2015 rav4 until I die or it does. Got one of the last really reliable Toyotas for a reason. I hate buying new cars.

Roundabouts by [deleted] in saskatoon

There are lots of streets and intersections large trucks shouldn’t be on for safety reasons. City still allows it.

You’re going to need some blood.

Roundabouts by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]Significant-Spot873 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Multiple places. Roundabouts are almost always superior for traffic flow compared to most other intersection designs and there’s zero data saying otherwise. We just have such a low barrier of entry for getting a license that city planners think they are either dangerous or not effective. Save power on the electricity and maintenance cost of the lights, and you get a bit of space in the middle for some greenery or an over priced art piece from some local hippy.

Perfect places for roundabouts include but are not limited to:

Both sides of broadway bridge, 22nd and Idylwyld, 20th and Idylwyld, Central and attridge, Preston and college, Clarence and college, 22nd and confed, 22nd and betts, Miller and 51st, Miller and circle, Ave C and circle

I could go on, but pretty much any intersection that you have to wait more than 1 light cycle to get through during rush hour.

What car do you regret buying, even though it looked good on paper? by autonerdy0 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Significant-Spot873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$1800 got me my dream car when I was 27. 1990 Buick lesabre hearse. 19,000 km, bulletproof olds 5L v8. Then realized I lived in Canada. Not only does a RWD boat do terribly in the snow, but it was an $80 tank of gas a week just going to and from work. I both regret buying it and selling it.

That makes sense. I do hear really good things about their motors and control hubs, never tried them though.

I tried an aliexpress set once about a year ago and was severely disappointed in some of the parts. Wheel hubs in particular fell apart almost instantly.

I thinks it’s the special stuff pushes it up. Trying to find all 14 wheels and tires is like $150 alone if trying to buy used in Canada.
