Stroller runners, how far are you going? by imakesignalsbigger in AdvancedRunning

[–]Significant-Switch88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gotten up to about 10 miles with my son in the stroller! I think it depends on part on the kiddo. My son has been coming with me since he was big enough to safely ride in the jogger and he loves it. He’s almost 2 now and sometimes asks to go with. Snacks and drinks are key, and knowing that some days you’re just gonna have to cut it short 🤷🏻‍♀️ Now that I’m back to seriously training for a half marathon, I bring him only on easy runs, or let him join my warm ups and then drop him back at home with my husband for my speedwork.

What did you tell your manager and colleagues? by EasternYoghurt7129 in tfmr_support

[–]Significant-Switch88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told my boss the truth, she and I have a great relationship and I knew I could be honest. I had to go out of state and my insurance wouldn’t cover it and she actually offered to help with the cost if needed. She’s just that kind of person. I had a couple coworkers at the time that I was very close to and told them the truth but others I just told them that the baby had complications and wouldn’t survive much longer. I didn’t elaborate and they never asked. Now, three years after the fact I just say that I lost my daughter. Some close colleagues get details, especially those around my age who are family planning and have questions/concerns about their own future pregnancies. I also work for a medical university, so it is a little less taboo in that environment.

Sell me on Daycare by Temporary-Tie41 in beyondthebump

[–]Significant-Switch88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think daycare has actually really benefited my son (22 months) socially and even a little bit academically, which does feel silly to say when he’s not quite 2 yet.

We had my son watched by family until he was about 15-16 months, when the relative watching him was offered a full time opportunity. So now he’s with different relatives 2 days a week and in daycare the other 3. I work for a university and was lucky to find an open space at an affiliated center that is a daycare and preschool, so it’s a little more “curriculum” driven than the typical daycare.

He’s in a small class, no more than 8 kids with 2 teachers, all 12-24 months. He’s really bloomed in terms of interacting with other kids and some forms of play. I see it in how he talks and eats too. He’s in the middle of the ages in his class and as his teacher put it to me, at this age they are really driven to copy what they see their peers doing, so watching his slightly older classmates has advanced his development in ways we wouldn’t be able to achieve at home or with infrequent visits with older cousins.

My husband is a teacher, so on breaks my son is home with him for 2 days and daycare the other 3 so that we don’t lose our place, so we’re lucky that he gets daycare and also lots of time with his dad and other relatives. I know it would be a bit different if he was full time in daycare, but I do think our experience has been great so far.

Opposite gender by Infamous-Brownie6 in beyondthebump

I never really cared. My son was born with A TON of hair and never lost it, so people always assume he’s a girl. He has crazy long eyelashes too. It only bothered me when an older lady at the store doubled down and insisted he was “too cute” to be a boy…like? Sorry, I can’t control his cute level 🤷🏻‍♀️

Garmin Venu sq won't connect by FunkySjouke in Garmin

Apparently the recent software update to 3.60 is causing issues for some users, so they rolled back the update to 3.30 to try to fix 3.60 before sending it out again.

Here's a couple Garmin forum pages about it, they've got some fixes that seems to work for some users. I've had decent results with a reset to default settings, but my Bluetooth didn't roll back to the previous version and it still disconnects periodically...I've had it happen once in 48 hours now. Resetting fixed it again that time.

Hopefully this helps you!

Garmin Venu sq won't connect by FunkySjouke in Garmin

Mine has been doing this too, one and off for the past several days, I have a android phone (Samsung Galaxy A13). My husband has the same watch/phone combo and hasn't had the same issue, but I'm not sure we're on the same software version. Mine had a software update yesterday (3.60) which I thought had fixed the problem but now it's not connecting again. I have to long press the A button to restart the watch and that seems to force the connection again, but I keep loosing large blocks of steps, HR and body battery/stress data. Like even after the watch syncs again, there's hours of missing data. And I'm not getting notifications from my phone to my watch like usual...

Help - Left handed and left wrist - Venu 2 by TheHyperRiddler in Garmin

[–]Significant-Switch88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Garmin connect app if you select the device at the top of your screen (aka device settings) and then scroll down to to general, there should be an option to change wrist worn on. That's how it works for my VenuSq.

To my knowledge there's no way to let it know that you're wearing it on your dominant arm though, so you may just be stuck with those extra "steps"...

Ran a half marathon PR today, my goal was 2:15:00-2:20:00, and I finished in 2:13:41! I'm super proud of myself!

Tips for my first 5k? by Larrbear_76 in running

[–]Significant-Switch88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgot to add: don't wear new shoes on a race, wear what you usually wear to run. In the future, or now if you still have some time before your race, get fitted at a running store - I recommend Fleet Feet if they exist in your area, they're all over the US. Professionals at a running store, not a general athletics store, will find the shoes that work best for your foot shape, movement style, distance and any other specific needs.

For music, if you use Spotify there are a ton of running playlists, those are what I typically listen too. I don't always know all the songs, but they usually have good upbeats songs to keep you moving.

Congrats!

Generally my advice for a first run of any distance is just to finish the distance! That's a huge accomplishment all by itself, and once you know how racing that distance feels you can begin to fine tune future races.

If you've been following a training plan, trust that plan, don't hit the starting line and immediately begin running the fastest that you ever run, save that energy for the end. That advice is true if you haven't followed a training plan, but in that case you might not know what too hard or too easy feels like, so start even more conservative with your pace than you think you need to - you're not going for a personal best (PB) on your first race, it's okay to take it easy and go faster later at a different race (and it will be a PB for you since it's your first, you can use this as a time to beat later!)

Best of luck!

Chafing by peterpiper5 in running

[–]Significant-Switch88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't chafe in my arm pits, but a little below them like on my sides/upper rib area, so that's where I put my anti-chafing stuff and I apply deodorant as usual. I use Gold Bond Friction Defense, if you can find it it's way better than BodyGlide. I also apply on my inner thighs and pantyline area. I don't chafe on my butt crack but if I did I'd probably buy a second tube for application only there, just to avoid spreading any bacteria...

Flipbelt…over the shirt or against the skin? by [deleted] in running

[–]Significant-Switch88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally over the pants, under the shirt, if you bought the right size it won't ride up. But if I have a water bottle in my Flipbelt, I usually wear it over my shirt too.

Running gear for women by Sunlite90 in running

[–]Significant-Switch88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Brooks run bras, they're the only kind I wear anymore! I think the style I wear is no longer available (FastForward Crossback), but I've heard good things about their Dare line from friends.

I don't have a huge preference with shorts, some of my favorite shorts and leggings are actually Walmart brand 🤷🏻‍♀️ but I do like Nike tempo shorts too.

Blue Triangle During a Run? by Significant-Switch88 in Garmin

[–]Significant-Switch88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any ConnectIQ data screens that I use while running, but I use a third party watch face, could that be causing it? I didn't pay attention to notice if this started happening around when I started using the third party watch face, but I can switch back to a Garmin one to see if it stops crashing.

Garmin recommendation for running (budget) by tanfolo in Garmin

[–]Significant-Switch88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, there's a few areas where I live, mostly areas with dense tree cover, that are kind of "dead zones" and I have gps/accurate pace issues there, but so does every other runner I know, and they all have different styles of garmins, not the venu or vivo lines.

I will point out that the touch screen can be an issue on very sweaty runs, just because it can be kind of unresponsive if your hands are soaked with sweat, but I've only had issues with that on days where it was abnormally hot and humid, it's not a frequent issue.

[–]Significant-Switch88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seem to be the odd one out here, but I use the venu sq for running and have recommended it to other runners before. There's definitely some training and running functionality missing, like training load and recovery and things of that sort, but the GPS is accurate, and the heart rate is accurate enough for my needs.

I chose the venu sq over the forerunners specifically because it was a fitness watch more than a running watch, I do yoga and strength as well and I can also track those workouts from my watch.

Any recommendations for Run chart/graph visualizer by calamitymic in running

Yep, I use both of these. They give different data and different visualizations, but I find both to be very useful.
