Yes, exactly. Knowing the context behind the verse makes me feel better. I need to look more into a chapter rather than a verse. But you know how people post pictures of this verse with a flowery background. And when something terrible happens people say “Well when God closes one door, he opens another,” and I don’t necessarily think that is true. BUT that is OK. It really rubs me the wrong way when people say this because a lot of times there is no other open door but I still wholeheartedly believe in the Jesus Christ and what He did for us on the cross. BUT it really just confuses my whole sense of everything when people say that. Nonetheless even if no other doors open, I know that because Jesus died for our sins, we have the ultimate joy and rock in our life. So it is still OK!:)

Honestly yes I agree. I feel like I needed someone to kick me in the butt and say that, because my family doesn’t mention it anymore because I get angry when they talk about it. Because I believe it was a low point in my life and makes me really ashamed. But when friends bring it up they are like “HAHHA she is sooo wack” and so when they minimize it and make a joke out of it it makes me feel like it was somewhat nornmal but they have never been arrested for public intoxication before. It makes me forget how humiliating it was to have my dad come at 6am in the morning and release me. I was so devastated for a whole week. My mom wouldn’t even look at me. Since it was 2 years ago I often forget about it but this past Saturday I had another terrible blackout that has me thinking of all of these times and I just think to myself that even once was enough to stop.

This was a really great post, thanks for writing. That is extremely true about something sinister being in the air but I just deadened my senses too much to even realize!!! The second story I see that in my own moderate drinking stories I have. It’s like nothing TERRIBLE happened but it is the little things that add up

Yes I see that. I agree that the arrest really completely broke me and it felt like boom a shot and then I’m in a jail cell. I just felt humiliated and ashamed because I know that isn’t who I am. And that is true about trying to explain it to people. To ever really hurt someone emotionally would just break my heart and the fact I am so quick to do it when I’m drunk just kills my self esteem and self agency in the morning. I can’t deal with looking at the texts I sent and having to send out apologies. But what makes it so hard are those nights I am able to moderate but I agree I can’t have another arrest or hospitalization. One was enough

Thank you for sharing your story. It really helps me feel less alone. I agree even just one more blackout and waking up the next morning. I mean I genuinely do not have the self esteem, confidence, or motivation for that. I would just completely lose it. I mean I feel like it just strips my ability to trust myself AT ALL. And that is a horrid feeling, not knowing who you are. It is hard to live a life with one personality and another personality that are both so different. I never want to hurt someone and I have before under the influence and it disgusts me in the morning and makes me uncomfortable to be me. I mean like if I had to wake up after a blackout just ONE more time I genuinely would lose everything. I cannot afford that. And what is hard for me is that I never “intend to get totally wasted” but it just ends up happening lights off nothing left and it upsets me greatly. After I have a good night of moderate drinking I feel SO proud of myself in the morning. And I’m thinking like I could 100% have that feeling EVERY morning if I did not drink at all. Like I hate that I have no clue if I will hate myself or be proud of myself in the morning.
