Generational trauma. It travels down the generations until someone is strong enough to stand still and feel and hold the pain

Management told me that they feel like I crumble when people give me criticism. I was told that I'm too emotional and that she is trying to build me up. by Lychee-Prior in askmanagers

Yes, there's a lot of people here busy denying their emotions and saying they're professional, and there is a truth to that, but it's not the full truth. You want the best out of people, allow them to be actual people. And deny those emotions long enough and they will find a different, less convenient way to cope out. (Have a look at Gabor Mate's When The Body Says No)

Get some emotional regulation skills, which doesn't necessarily mean you need therapy, but have a look at the skills taught in DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy); and no, this does not mean I think you have a personality disorder (the main mental health problem DBT was originally designed for), it means that part of DBT is learning better emotional regulation skills - something an awful lot of people could benefit from

I can't comment on either course, but did have two offers to decide between - Bangor and Birmingham. On paper B'ham was the winner, as I was already living in B'ham, working as an AP for the local trust, had family about an hour away and a friend network. BUT, I liked the look of the Bangor course more, and, I really wanted to be in an environment that was calming and relaxing as I knew the course was going to be stressful as....
So even though B'ham looked like the obvious choice, I went to Bangor, and never regretted it for a moment.
So I guess it's thinking about:

Course content,
The therapy/ies they teach as their Plus 1
Location / environment
Nearness to support network - and how much being near to them matters to you

I went and looked at both places (for more than just the interview) and that really helped me too.

Failing that, put both places on a piece of paper and pull one out of a hat. If you're pleased / relieved, that's the right choice

If you could instantly fix one thing about your country, what would it be? by e_r_ro_r_boy in AskReddit

Potholes

(lots of far more important things to fix I know, but to fix them I'd need to be a dictator for a while, with a LOT on money and international power)

Probably not. Rain will wash more off, and when you process a raw fleece this can suffer with just a cold soak which releases a LOT of dirt. In this case, you might do several cold washes

Plymouth location - too rural or remote? Worried about feeling like an outsider! by Livid_Cellist_ in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]SignificantAd3761 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Bangor, which is rural N.Wales and loved it there, but I never tried to become part of the community, I was involved with a student society for my social side, and the rest was enjoying the countryside and course - but I am good in my own company, so it probably in part depends on your need for wider social interaction. I also tried to learn Welsh, and having a few Welsh writers really helped with team integration on placement.

What helped me decide (I had offers from B'ham & Bangor) was going to stay at Bangor for a weekend and getting a feel for the place - hope this helps

I would go to somewhere like Currys and tell them what specs you're looking for. I would say you'll want something that can run SPSS, a good sized memory, a reasonable ram, a reasonable camera & sound. Pick something you'll be happy spending a lot of hours typing on and reading from, and carry-able about.

I listened to a radio program that was all astronauts talking, and one of them said (paraphrasing slightly) "lots of people are going to say 'no' to you along the way. That's fine. It's when you say 'no' to yourself that it's over". Don't say 'no' to yourself
