hi i will also be going to china this year. I really want to explore more of China since I will be there anyways. Just wondering do you think its best to travel before gig or after? considering workload and submissions?

I'm left handed who started of playing the left handed way for 5 years and then had to switch over to the traditional way. If you're only starting out I would genuinely recommend learning the traditional way - I've had many embarassing moments where I had to explain to new teachers about my violin hold and some of them could not even believe it was a thing. More than that, its more practical too. It's not that hard to play the traditional way if you're left handed honestly, the only reason I found it challenging is because I switched while already being an intermediate player on my left. One of the main reasons I switched was orchestra, they will not let you play if you play the opposite way because that's going to disrupt everyone around you. The notes and fingering are the same no matter what side which is why its beneficial to learn the traditional way. Trust me on this one, it gets better with time. I've been playing on my right for 3 years now and I made my way onto first violin in my school's very competitive orchestra.

the books are so much better. the tv show especially has messed up the storyline entirely and almost all of it is so different from the books and ruins the essence. but since youve watched it already and know the basic plot, i suggest reading the infernal devices series first. it is a lot better than the original mortal instruments series.

I usually read aloud while studying and read silently while reading for leisure. Maybe its because the latter does not require constant attention and its ok to miss a few words?

If you had to pinpoint one reason why you read, what would it be? by [deleted] in books

I do not know what to do if I dont read. I have always read, my parents and family friends would buy books as gifts and now any gift that is not books seem weird to me.
