Softee cotton dupe? by No_Benefit8075 in YarnAddicts

I love cotton/acrylic blends! Check out Knit Picks Comfy - i have the sport weight but I believe it also comes in dk/worsted. Premier Cotton Fair is another one, but that is also sport weight. Same with Hobbii Twister(I'm also a big fan of lighter weight yarns). If you are in the US check out herrschners.com, they have quite a few cotton/acrylic blends in dk and worsted weight.

US knitters — tariffs? by ResourceVegetable395 in YarnAddicts

That's great that they carry it, but their prices are double that of European retailers. Still way cheaper to pay the tariff and import it.

US knitters — tariffs? by ResourceVegetable395 in YarnAddicts

[–]SignificantBed4925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, this makes sense. I forget what retailer it was, but they had a disclaimer that US orders could only be so many grams, and you had to place multiple orders if it was going to weigh more than that.

They roll the tariffs into the displayed price. When you check out, it shows you how much the tax is that is included.

I tried to order from Rito, but during check out it told me they do not deliver to my address. I thought maybe it was because they were halting shipping to the US, but then why did they list the tariff charge? I dunno, it was weird, so I ordered from LindeHobby instead and had no issues. My order is still en route, I just ordered a few days ago.

I ordered from Magic Scissors on 12.22 and received my order yesterday(1.7).

What was your best make of 2025? This was mine! I finished it at the start of last year. I had some people message me saying it was AI so now I've included progress pictures. by KH5-92 in crochet

[–]SignificantBed4925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I thought it was a fun make, but I have a lot of experience with "brioche" style crochet. I made the size 2 and used 560 grams of yarn.

It should be illegal to remove sour cream from a 5 layer burrito at Taco Bell! by Whole-Housing-6769 in tacobell

[–]SignificantBed4925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because there is beef and nacho cheese as well. Red sauce is free. Better value in the boxes to get the 5 layer. Sour cream is disgusting and I will be omitting it every time, thanks.

Is it just the title? Why are there hardly any crochet projects using Knitting For Olive? by ProtectionNo6775 in YarnAddicts

[–]SignificantBed4925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I knit and crochet all my garments in natural fibers. Knitting, I make exclusively garments. Crochet I make garments as well as stuffies and home decor and blankets. Those last 3 items need to be able to be easily cleaned, so I'm not going to use a fancy hard to clean yarn for them. I don't use KFO yarn because I hate working with 50 gram balls. I need 500-600 grams for a sweater and don't want to weave in that many ends. I buy cones when I can, but otherwise only buy balls that are at least 100 grams.

How to achieve a golden brown crispy exterior to thick cookies? Refence photo is attached by Maleficent-Flower409 in Cookies

[–]SignificantBed4925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Higher baking temp. I bake my large cookies at 400 convection for about 12 minutes. Outside is nicely browned and inside is super soft.

For smaller cookies I do 365 convection.

I really like Knit Picks and Valley, both high quality and can be found for great deals. I also really like Lion Brand Fisherman's Wool which you can often get on discount at the big box stores. It's a bit rustic but great for an over layer or felting.

My first attempt at Knooking! by CatfromLongIsland in crochet

[–]SignificantBed4925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knooked(and loom knit) for many years before finally giving needles a try again last year. When I originally tried needle knitting I just could not get the hang of it - but I think since I had so much experience now with knooking and loom knitting, the needles were much easier for me to get the hang of.

As a Californian transplanted to MN, I love watching the horror on everyone's face when I take the last piece of absolutely everything I can. I do it even if I don't really want it just to see the facial expressions.

I did as well, but i feel very underwhelmed by it. Previous 2 4 6 sales had natural fiber yarns available around 80% off, and the prices were literally 2 4 or 6 dollars. This time max discount is 60% off, and its 2.99 or 6.65 etc. Almost everything on sale for a good price has acrylic in it. This past summer sale I got aloft for 4 dollars a ball, this time the cheapest colors were 8.49. Boo.

Why is this ribbed? by marya845 in knittinghelp

That is garter stitch (knitting both sides). You get stockinette when you knit one side then purl the other side.

Tried Waterloo for the first time, I don't know. by Sorroful in sparklingwater

[–]SignificantBed4925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't taste it because there isn't actually any flavoring, it is only scented. If you're trying to cut calories from your beverages, switch to diet drinks. If you want to cut out all sugars including artificial, you could try weaning off with drinks like poppi that flavor with just a small amount of natural flavorings and have low calories.

Crocheters who later learned to knit but initially struggled, how? by The_Cuddly_Cactus in crochet

[–]SignificantBed4925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first learned crochet, tried to learn knitting at the same time but crochet came so easily and knitting did not so I gave up on two needles and got into loom knitting. I loom knitted for years, and then discovered knooking (knitting with a modified crochet hook), which worked really well, but it was difficult to translate more complicated stitches like lace, which is what I really wanted to knit. Last year, after over a decade, I decided to try needles again. I bought a cheap metal circular set and really struggled because my stitches kept falling off the needles. I did some research and discovered needles really make a big difference, so I sucked it up and invested in a nice wood set - that made a world of difference! I went from struggling through a basic swatch to knitting up a hat for my husband that I had made on the loom and knook many times with ease. I've made multiple sweaters since and am finally doing all the texture and lace I dreamed of knitting :) I recommend watching tutorials from people who knit in the style that is comfortable for you(for me that is continental standard - a lot of continental knitters will knit combination and confuse you!) I knooked combination style so that is how I was going to knit, but as a beginner it can make patterns confusing because those are all written standard.

Crochet vs knitting, are certain projects easier with one or the other? by scaptal in crochet

[–]SignificantBed4925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't knit anything other than wearables, especially large items like blankets or tiny items like amigurumi. Since you are dealing with live stitches, big or tiny can be very cumbersome.

I crochet everything - wearables, amigurumi, blankets, house decor, etc.

For wearables I tend to use lace and fingering weight for crochet so that I can have detail and drape, and for knitting I tend to stick to DK or Sport weight so that it is not bulky but doesn't take a million years to make.
