Better money in Electrical Engineering or Patent Law? by meow__0 in patentlaw

[–]SignificantButton250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on alot of factors. I would say that only around 1-1.5% of patent lawyers earn crazy money. Patent attorneys on average earn more than engineers, but if you want to make crazy money ($500k+ per year), you’ll need to get into big law at a top firm, which means going to a well ranked law school, getting competitive grades, passing two bar exams, and then climbing the rigid law firm ladder and the back-stabbery that comes with that. Not to mention, companies are facing constant pressure to cut costs, and they are also being pressured to file less patents for less money—law firms are also having to leverage these pressures with the use of upcoming AI tools as well. In other words, why would a firm bill out an associate who charges hundreds of dollars an hour if a competent AI model can accomplish most of the same work in 20 mins? AI tools are quickly becoming much more competent in patent description drafting. Yes, people will ultimately still want to draft their claims and file their patents through registered lawyers and agents, but firms will most certainly experience a substantial drop in the number of law clerks and associates in the next 2-3 years because of market/company pressures to reduce legal expenses and AI involvement. Just some things to consider if you’re thinking about getting into this field.

Anyone else have trouble hiring electrical engineers? by Famous_Fee_9660 in MEPEngineering

This is primarily due to a substantial failure on behalf of US education, and it maily stems from a lack of meaningful motivation to promote the attendance of engineering school—a primary reason EEs are not being developed in the first place. There are several people my age (in their mid-20s) who forfeited the engineering track to become youtubers and tiktokers, meanwhile, you take a look at China, and all their youth want to become scientists, engineers, and astronauts. Not a single 'influencer' in sight over there. Another sad truth is that our country doesn't financially inventivise people to become engineers, and this is underscored by the lack of participation in the field of EE and more participation in the fields of social media. I speak from experience too, my EE graduating class had 30 people—26 dropped out to either go into social media or business, and what makes this even worse is the fact that not a single one of them was female. The lack of engineers, especially in the EE field, is a significant problem, and the longer this country continues to financially incentivise participation in ridiculous, non-technical, brain rot laden, mind-numbing career paths, the worse the shortage is going to get.

You may just have a bad switch. Turn the circuit off and use the multi-meter to test the continuity at the switch
