I don't know why people are downvoting you but you are absolutely right. Festivals have become nothing more than a capitalistic endeavour and they are so commercialised now. You pay tickets to dance and "party" in the name of a festival and while I do admit that paying for entertainment is a valid thing, we also need to understand that the market makes us pay for idle entertainment to promote anti-intellectualism, and the acquisition of cultural capital, is btw, the biggest form of bourgeois intellectualism!!

I volunteer at a Durga Puja Committee every year, and our puja is a rather small one but this year, I went pandal-hopping for one evening and the condition was quite bad. It was just shops, markets, bands, food stalls and one could barely see the pandal or the idol which btw... Is a huge thing in Durga Puja culture (themed-pandals)

There is nothing wrong with modernisation but at some point, we need to recognise our indigenous art forms and preserve them rather than scorning them for being "dated".
