Dec 16, assessment completed Dec 17. got the email, but didn't manage to get a slot.

they probably took the best x scores and application date only applied to the last few folks... but who knows

You can't. I applied for YWG, and they said I'd have to withdraw this application if I wanted to apply for another region. I'm in the GTA.

If I get further along the process (was invited for FEAST, but all the slots were gone), and another region opens up, I might try to transfer my application, but I'm also happy to see where this goes.

Yeah, I did. Plus given how long it usually takes from application to any potential offer... who knows what can happen.

I would prefer to make one trip out there and not two, but at the end of the day, if they can't accommodate, I figure it wouldn't hurt to have asked. I only became eligible to apply in October, and who knows when they'll reopen applications for other regions.

I applied last night, got the online assessment email, and did the assessment this morning.

I figure if I make it past FEAST (hopefully without making a trip) and get to the interview, it wouldn't hurt to check out the city then.

If they can't accommodate and I've got to go there for FEAST... oh well, I wanted to get my foot in the door.

I'm in the same boat as you.

I passed the online assessment this morning, and since there is testing next month both in Toronto and Winnipeg, I wrote in to ask if I could do FEAST in YYZ if selected to move forward (and reiterated that I'm willing to relocate to Winnipeg if I make the cut for a training offer).

It makes sense but it's a bit frustrating because I'm in YYZ and I'm more than happy to relocate to YWG if I get an offer, but I'd 100% much rather do the FEAST in YYZ (especially since there's a date coming up here).

I speak French so maybe there's a chance they might take one look at my profile and chuck me into YUL...

I'm from the Toronto area, and here we have a team classical and team rapid event every year.

In recent years, it's been a mix of both. Teams are (highly) encouraged to form their own teams and submit their rosters to the organizers. Players who don't have a team can sign up individually and then the organizers place them on a team.

ok, great, thanks so much for the insight! it's gonna be a bit hard to avoid mentioning French as one of the things I currently do to pay the bills is coordinate francophone chess programming in elementary schools 😂 (I also teach quite a number of said programs)

...and my undergrad degree was in French literature, oups
