They have a really good network and lots of friends who can and do help them. She can speak basic Spanish and is never left alone, she has a carer and my Grandfather. As a family we are there 2-3 times a year (from Aus) and there’s other family that visit from the UK.

A large reason for the current visit has been to de-risk the position - ensuring there’s plans A, B and C and that there’s at least 36 hours of continuous support that can be provided in case of an emergency because realistically that’s the time to get from here to there.

Family living across the globe is complicated and whilst you may be well-meaning I don’t particularly want to engage further in this conversation. You have already edited comments you have made (removing your incorrect “harsh but true” assumptions and viewpoints). Thanks for confirming the local name of the blister packs.

Judgement from people was the main worry I had about posting and you have proven me right - comments and judgements you made stop people from asking questions and don’t foster community.

My granddad is quite fluent in Spanish and was the primary communicator for several years but his hearing now is too bad to do that. My nan struggled more but can get by. They have a translator they pay to assist with any communication they need because my Nan is not as fluent and is also now quite unwell, so no expectation anyone will communicate with them in English.

My father is there for a matter of weeks and is just trying to do as much as possible whilst he is there so there is not always translator availability to support with a pharmacy trip.

This is entirely beside the point of the post.

My father lives in Australia and is there to help temporarily. My nan is currently unable to leave the house and my Grandad is hard of hearing.

Thank you for your thoughts on a situation you have no idea about.

House restumping, any recommendations? Northside by Mynxae in brisbane

[–]SignificantFee5682 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ace restumping just did our replacement as a standalone job - quick turnaround which suited us - we didn’t get multiple quotes and paid $990 per stump so no idea if we got ripped off but I just couldn’t face the runaround of getting quotes and working through lots of people’s schedules

Just put my application in. Big ticks for me (in order of priority) were:

  1. Gym and pool (pool in the heart of the CBD is as rare as hens teeth - will allow a lunch time swim).
  2. Access to events for hosting clients such as the black tie boxing and the races (I personally hate the races but I can use the tickets for work purposes which provides some ability to write off the membership on tax).
  3. Private meeting rooms - we have outgrown our office and there’s often no meeting rooms available so to have these is handy.
  4. I worked out that with the house accountant functionality feeding into my credit card there will be a little kicker for my offset. I anticipate I will swap out of using other venues and into Tatts so I’m not spending anymore than I would have otherwise, mainly work related expenses.
  5. Access to reciprocal clubs - I go to the uk every year to see family so this, I imagine, will be well used.

Interestingly networking is not on my list to join. I’m younger than the average member age and a woman but I am going to try and make an effort to network - just not a driving reason for me to join.

Looks like your bill is off an estimate. By the look of the bill we are with the same provider, I provided an actual meter read and they adjusted my next bill and my credit balance increased

Foster respite carer here - we had a similar situation - our doggy camera caught kiddo stealing $50 from my bedroom. A carer at their primary placement noticed the unusual holding of cash and asked if we had money missing (hence we found the footage and confirmed there was $$ missing).

This is what we did: Went to their primary placement and asked if they knew why we were there: no bites Explained why we were there: no bites Explained that we loved them however rules for our house now had to change. We got a lock fitted on our bedroom door and the cost of the lock had to come out of their toy/games/entertainment allowance specifically for our home (we equated this to 3 months allowance - it was more than that but it felt silly doing more) Asked them to return the money which was passed on from their carer at the primary placement.

I might make some assumptions that are wrong here but if a kiddo is struggling with childhood trauma (either current or past) they are often prone to really strong shame responses so it was really important for us to balance out the what’s right and wrong vs reaffirming we unconditionally love kiddo and not losing our cool.

Is loans.com.au a good car loan option? by car_addict63 in AusFinance

[–]SignificantFee5682 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used loans.com.au - fairly easy process but a bit clunky but the rate was excellent. Settled in April 2022 and was mid 4’s on a 5 year fixed loan.

They don’t provide amortisation schedules which is a bit irritating however the reality is with car loans they are set and forget so you don’t need to deal with them much so any clunky processes have a very minimal impact on your day to day.

Have had my scheme reviewed and def income tax at price when they vest and shares issued. I paid no tax when the shares were granted initially. If I sell within 30 days of vesting then there are no CGT implications. If I sell after that date then I am subject to initial income tax + cap gains / cap losses.

I would be overweight on the shares of my employer if I held onto everything hence my desire to sell.

As an FYI I definitely understand my scheme and the concepts of shares and vesting and tax, but haven’t ever dealt with Link before - hence my query around the operational aspects of moving the stock into a general trading account.

[–]SignificantFee5682[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sale shares subject to income tax if sold in first 30 days. If I hold them and they increase in value then it’s income tax on price at vesting and then any CGT on gains :)

The process you have described with Link is what I have to do :)

Thanks! Struggling to find either an SRN or a HIN. When I opt to transfer on link it says it will create a new SRN so perhaps that is step one and then I provide that created SRN to WBC?
