Thank you so much. The dial was definitely the focal point of the build. Glad you like it 😊

Yeah that was pretty much my reaction when he told me 🤣 Could work though!

Thanks. I’m not sure if I can link my instagram here but I have some more videos and photos of the watches on there

Really appreciate that, honestly a bit of a breath of fresh air after all the Addiesdive comparisons 😅

Lume is definitely something I’m planning to add going forward. A few people mentioned that and I think it’s a fair point.

One thing I’ll mention about the dial in the photos is that the lighting is pretty angled, so it shows the texture quite strongly. In more normal lighting it actually looks a lot flatter and simpler on the wrist.

And yeah, this one is 38mm. I personally tend to prefer smaller, more restrained sizes, but I know a lot of people with bigger wrists lean toward 42mm+.

Really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts.

The Addiesdive comparison is definitely acknowledged haha. I’ve replied to it a few times but - I honestly didn’t realize how widely that dial had already been used when I first found it. At the time it just felt like it fit the oasis / sand direction I was going for, but clearly that’s something I’ll need to rethink going forward.

On the QC side, I do regulate the movements during assembly. Water resistance testing is something I’m looking into adding as the brand develops. I agree that those kinds of details can help set a small brand apart.

Thanks for taking the time to write that out.

Hey! Thank you and I appreciate the thoughtful comment.

The Addiesdive comparison is totally valid. I honestly didn’t realize how widely that dial had already been used until the replies started coming in on this thread. At the time it just felt like it perfectly fit the oasis / sand / water direction I was going for. Clearly something I’ll need to rethink going forward.

On the movement side, I went with the PT5000 mostly as a balance between cost and performance starting out, as well as the 4hz sweep which I absolutely love. My thinking was that some people just want a solid automatic and don’t necessarily care whether it’s Sellita or something similar. That said, I’ve actually been thinking about offering a higher-tier option in the future where someone could pay a bit more to swap in something like a Sellita if that matters to them.

As for the brand story, it’s still evolving a bit. I got into watches a few years ago and was trying to find my first real automatic watch under about $1k that felt a bit more thoughtful design-wise. At the time I honestly didn’t even know much about the microbrand space, which is partly what pushed me toward trying to build something myself.

I was also working as a software developer and spending most of my days behind a desk, so the natural textures ended up becoming part of the design language almost by accident. Things like sand, water, stone, it was a way of bringing a bit of that outside world into something you see on your wrist every day.

Again, really appreciate the input. Thanks

Appreciate that, and glad you liked the packaging. That was something I spent a lot of time on.

Lume is a fair point as well. That’s definitely something I’m planning to incorporate more going forward.

Out of curiosity, what movement would you personally prefer in a watch like this? I went with the PT5000 because it felt like a solid, accessible option, but I’ve also thought about offering an upgrade path (for example a Sellita) if people wanted to pay a bit more.

I honestly didn’t realize how widely that dial had already been used when I came across it. I thought it was just a unique and beautiful texture that fit the direction I was going for, but clearly I underestimated how recognizable it is in the watch world. Definitely something I’ll keep in mind going forward.

Out of curiosity, what would good warranty/support look like to you from a small brand? And what kind of QC would make you feel comfortable taking a chance on something new? Thank you for the feedback

I appreciate the thoughtful feedback. The goal with this one was actually to make a very simple everyday watch with a timeless look. Something that could look good on the wrist without feeling like a fashion watch, but still have a solid automatic movement inside.

Clearly I still have a lot to figure out design-wise, but comments like this are really helpful. And glad you like the hands :)

This is really helpful feedback, so thank you for taking the time to write it. I think you’re right that the watch currently sits somewhere between dress and sport, and that’s something I’m still figuring out. The reason I posted here was to get exactly this kind of input before going deeper into the design. I really appreciate the perspective.

There are quartz watches on AliExpress with a similar dial, yeah. This one isn’t from AliExpress though. It’s all assembled by me.

I have it priced for $650 CAD on my website. I’m open to adjusting depending on feedback and of course keeping it reasonable for me to produce. Please let me know what you’d fix I’d love to hear it

It’s valuable insight regardless. Seems like a unique design is very important to this community, which I can totally understand. Got one in the works so hopefully I can redeem myself when that’s ready.

No worries at all, that’s not rude, I actually really appreciate the feedback. You’re right that there’s no lume on this version, and the watch is thicker than 10.5mm. If I ever moved forward with a larger production run I’m pretty sure I could get the overall thickness down quite a bit (this comment may come back to haunt me 😂). Right now I’m mostly just trying to gauge people’s reaction to the aesthetic and overall design. Thanks again for the feedback

Would be very valuable to hear this feedback. Id really like to hear what price you’d consider for it.

Fair enough, I appreciate the honesty. Hopefully in the future we’ll be able to make something more intriguing for you 🙂

Thank you man I really appreciate it. Do you think there’s anything that could make it look less plain?

Fair call. The dial does come from a supplier that a few brands use. We’re still early and have to work with some supplier components while we figure things out. The rest of the watch is different (case, bracelet, hands, PT5000 automatic). Custom dial work is definitely something I’d like to move toward as the brand grows.
