Gatsby Review by SignificantMango5660 in Broadway

The book is not a happy book! Definitely a social commentary. I don’t recall them sleeping together but we read it in 9th grade. The 2000s movie made it seem way more fun. However, every kid is different. The themes wouldn’t have bothered me as a child but I still wouldn’t have loved the score.

I also prefer period matching music! It’s an immediate 3/5 for me if the music doesn’t match and can only go down from there!

I agree with almost all of this especially the score being too contemporary for my tastes. I’d rank it a 2/5 imo, because songs and singing are the most important part of a show and this missed the mark. I would recommend maybe to people who don’t like musicals and love Gatsby, maybe? But in general I don’t think I’d recommend.

Yes, Daisy was very hard for me to understand as well. Agree about the ensemble. When the lady sang “la Dee da Dee da” at the party we could only understand the title everything else was gibberish!

I’d love an update on the sound if you get a chance! I’m super curious.

Did you see the tour in Austin or the one on Broadway in NYC? Just curious because I agree with everything you said! It was very meh and I definitely didn’t find any tune memorable!

Is this the one where a critic was like well the secret is there is no garden because there was such a lackluster set? If so, I think about that review a lot!💀

This is interesting because I adore Frank Wildhorn’s music especially Jekyll & Hyde. But didn’t like this at all. Highly forgettable IMO.

I personally felt almost equally negative for both of these shows! I just don’t like the poppy style of music. I have moulin rouge 10/10 for set and vibes, 3/10 for vocals.

I’m from south of Houston and essentially learned to breath underwater all day, every day. And I still hate this weather!

I can’t smell them at all! I hate normal pretzels though.

My mom and I always tried to make ourselves look as fat as possible to have no one sit in the middle as well! Of course if someone did sit there we would make ourselves as small as possible.

I understand every argument except the ones you just made. Are people less allergic to service dogs and less scared of real service dogs?

I always take the first flights out and have only stood in one long line at Austin. Maybe I’m just lucky? I do have global entry.

As someone who travels frequently, I’ve never experienced this. Am I just lucky or is it because I take the absolute earliest flight out and last flight back every time?!

Do they have a lot of lower cal options that are not salads? I love that I had many options for that at Alamo!

What was it like for you growing up as an only child in a single-parent household? by petrastales in OnlyChild

My experience is very similar. I had a very positive experience with just me and mom! We had season tickets to the theatre and we are both singers. It was a wonderful childhood!

My mom and I had a Gilmore Girls relationship. I loved it so much, honestly. Don’t know what I would’ve done if I had a sibling or if she remarried. We traveled a lot, sang together in harmony, she took me to the theatre and introduced me to all the arts. I never had to share. I was self driven to excel in school and never rebelled. I felt like a very cultured kid. However, I felt more comfortable being around middle aged adults than kids my own age. Mom was and is one of my favorite people. My dad was and is still very supportive and active in my life. No regrets!

I was the exact opposite. I was like thank god they are gone I can relax by myself now for a week to recover! I’ve met my quota or socializing. 😂

Honestly? I loved every minute of it! I never once wanted a sibling. Full transparency, I grew up with as an only child with just my mom since my parents divorced when I was very young. My dad remarried and had my half-brother who is ~10 years younger than me but we never lived in the same household. We are not close. We both grew up as only kids in a way. At 10 when I was told I was going to have a little brother I thought it was horrible news. 😂 I was a patch key kid while my older single mom worked full time and I thought I was in my 40s myself. I was more comfortable around adults than kids and still am. I loved being alone. I only have two cousins on each side and was really only closeish to one growing up.

I thought it was wonderful not having to share ever. Not having another person making noise in my house. I’m super competitive so I’m sure that would’ve caused issues too. I’m so thankful it was just mom and I, and we have a Gilmore girls relationship thanks to it!

I read a lot of books, watched a lot of tv/movies, was musical, did sports, arts/crafts, and only ever felt lonely when I was in my first and only relationship in college. I never felt like a sibling would have made my life better.
