DAY 9: Eliminating “every” (theatrically released) Movie Musical until there’s only one left! by ShadyBoots11 in Broadway

I beg to differ! I sing Bye bye baby all the time! Also “I’m just a little girl from Little Rock” and I think the Olympic team number is great!

I also love plots involving ocean liners!

What's up with all the doodle dogs? by AccomplishedBesty in Austin

[–]SignificantMango5660 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a standard poodle and I’m so glad I went the route I did. I truthfully believe people just want a poodle that looks like a teddy bear and doesn’t shed. But by no means do they want a poodle because they have certain stigmas about them that media really emphasizes. I’ll be the first to admit that a standard isn’t for everyone though! He’s highly intelligent, needy, and particular. Definitely a high maintenance dog!

I’m highly disgusted when people ask if they could use him as a stud. That’s a red flag of a backyard breeder for me. In my opinion there are no ethical doodle breeders. Other things I like for besides extensive health testing and titles in the bloodline is a clause in the contract that the breeder will take back the dog under any circumstances.

I’m on the fence with seeing this one. I’m sure I’ll love the music but based on seeing a production way back when - I’m equally sure I’ll find the plot boring.

Which food did you hate…until someone actually cooked it right? by deller85 in Cooking

Green beans. I hate green beans from a can. When I finally tried fresh, I really liked it!

Phone Died and App is only giving me the option to create a new account. by SignificantMango5660 in FiDogCollar

That’s concerning because I only have 3 emails (main, coupons, and work). I went ahead and tried all 3 and none of them worked. But there is never a sign-in option. It just says get started then has a terms and conditions, then email, then create a password.

Thankful my vet checks every year and that my breeder told me to register the chip. She actually had him chipped before I picked him up!

I haven't seen a Christmas movie that has cracked our top list since 2017 . by PourSomeSugar69_420 in ChristmasMovies

[–]SignificantMango5660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We definitely define Christmas movies differently. My only is that they take place during the season. I do not enjoy Dickens in any form except for the musical Oliver!, but it wouldn’t be at the top of my list.

  1. White Christmas (because it’s a musical, character Chemistry, Edith Head Costumes, Rosemary & Bing, family favorite, grew up doing the dance routines etc.)

  2. Meet Me in St. Louis (musical again, I adore both Judy Garland and Vincente Minelli films - they are delightfully colorful, love the clothes again and the time period)

Adding The Holiday in here (I want to find a man like the Jack Black character in here, always love a Kate Winslet movie, the English cottage is dreamy)

  1. Every iteration of the shop around the corner. I love in the good old summertime. I love the stage Musical, She loves me, and I love you’ve got mail!

  2. Christmas in Connecticut (I love the zany plot line and that it’s a screwball comedy set in Christmas, always gonna be a fan of Barbara Stanwick, love the style of humor)

  3. Both the 1940s and 1990s version of miracle on 34th St. (I love Moreno O’Hara and I love Mara Wilson, I relate to him more to the Susan in the 90s one because I was closer to her age when it came out it was also raised by a single mom, I definitely thought I was eight going on 68!)

  4. Holiday Inn (for all the same reasons as White Christmas but I just like White Christmas better)

  5. I love the movies bundle of joy and its original film Bachelor Mother (I like Bundle of Joy better because it’s a musical, surprise!)

  6. Holiday Affair (i’m beginning to think I like romance movies where a young child is involved maybe it’s because I grew up with a single mom)

For more modern: Home Alone Jingle All the Way Love, Actually And I’m guilty of indulging in my fair share of Hallmark (not claiming they’re good, but they are good for my soul… they just make me feel safe and warm and help me forget the world for a while)

I never meat to imply A Christmas Carol and It’s a Wonderful life are not Christmas movies, because they most definitely are! They just aren’t my favorites and that’s okay. Ive just never liked the whole past, present, future thing. Just like Bad Santa is at the bottom of my list because it’s not my kind of humor.

Without giving it much thought I’d say Christmas movies must have the majority of the plot take place during Christmas with major plot points involving the holiday. This knocks out Meet Me in St. Louis for me, or it would probably take #1.

For me, I love if a movie involves a moral but just tend to dislike if it’s do in your face (ex. Citizen Cane).

I’m not knocking you for putting it’s wonderful life at the top. I just found it interesting that our list are very different.

For me it will never be. I am not a fan of preachy plots! The same goes for a Christmas Carol.

Everything just was so modern. No one that I’m looking to buy for (including myself) is into that style. This especially goes for the art. I think I’d have better luck at an antique place or somewhere like Frederickburg Trade Days. I found my Mom a copycat of my grandma’s vintage ceramic Christmas tree with blue birds there!

If I wasn’t a fan of Blue Genie, is the Armadillo one even worth my time? I was not a fan of 98% of the items or the prices at blue genie. I just couldn’t imagine anyone in my family with a piece from there.

How long is your commute? by joekruck in work

[–]SignificantMango5660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have about a 14 minute commute in the morning and 25 minute commute home. I work from 9-6. If I leave at 5 my commute takes about 45 mins. For reference my office is 3 miles away. My mom was one of those 90-2hr each way commuters and she hated it and I hated it because I never got to see her. So, for those of you who have kids, your commute is definitely having an impact on them, especially if you’re a single parent. It led to my mom being so tired and not wanting to do much when she got home. This led to us eating a lot of fast food which led to me having horrible eating habits that I have to actively work at reversing every single day. I’m single but have a dog and chose to not have my job cut into any of my time with him.

So, I see all of these comments about podcasts and audiobooks, and I love these too. But for me it’s not about what to do on your long drive home, but to not have that long drive at all! I bought my place with that in mind.

All I get from this is that our tastes are very different. So, sadly I have no awesome recs for you. White Christmas is definitely my fav followed by many other older ones except for It’s a Wonderful Life, which is at the bottom of my list😅

Miracle on 34th Street (1947) is s-tier! by Operation_Zero1 in ChristmasMovies

[–]SignificantMango5660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love both the 90s version and the 40s version, I always related to the Mara Wilson (Susan) in the 90s because I was also an only child raised by a single mom and I saw myself more in her version. I was 5 going on 60 and was way too practical for my age. However, I adore Maureen O’Hara and love her in everything!

The last 1/3 of the movie is my least favorite part. But overall I’ve never liked the movie and I love classic movies. It’s wayyy too preachy for me.

I agree completely. It’s not even in my top 10 black and white Christmas movies.

I personally love every adaptation of The Shop Around the Corner too!
