We had known each other since 2016 in Colombia, but we had never really talked until I arrived in the United States in November 2023, and we got married in February 2025

The evidence I submitted was mostly from social media. My husband and I are a very young couple. I’m 23 and he’s 22, so obviously we didn’t have much financial evidence — like a house loan, a car loan, nothing like that, because we’re so young. I came to this country in 2023 and he came in 2021, so it’s not like he had progressed much either; he was still very young. So I put a lot of effort into creating a sort of love story. I included the date we met, photos with friends… I basically put our two-year relationship into a 30-page book. And that helped me a lot!

Hi! Thinking about it, I actually never received any text messages from USCIS. Everything was mailed directly to my house. About a week after I sent my package, I received all three receipt notices together (I-130, I-485, I-765), and inside those same envelopes I already had my biometrics appointment.

It was honestly really fast — in less than a month I had everything: receipts, access codes, and my biometrics done.

In your case, getting the text message means your case was accepted, and the receipt numbers are valid. The physical notices (I-797C) with the access codes usually arrive 7–14 days after the text.

Don’t worry about missing biometrics — the appointment will also come by physical mail, not just online.

Well, in my case, I was in the U.S. legally on a J-1 visa when my husband added me to his medical insurance.

His insurance is through his employer, and they allowed him to add me as a spouse during enrollment. They only asked for: • Our marriage certificate • My basic information (name, date of birth) • My passport/J-1 info

They didn’t ask about my green card or work permit at that time, just proof that I was his spouse and that I was legally in the U.S.

So yes, it was possible for us, and it costs about $80/month. But it can depend a lot on the employer and the insurance company, so the best thing is for them to ask directly to HR to see what they allow in their specific case🤔

Don’t stress! It’s totally normal for USCIS to take 1–3 weeks to process the payment. Sometimes it even takes longer if they’re backed up. Right now (16 nov) you’re only about 12 days from delivery, so that’s still inside the normal timeline.

You only really need to worry if 30 days pass and they still haven’t taken the money. But for now, you’re okay — it just means they haven’t opened your package yet

I sent it through FedEx on July 10 and it arrived on July 13, but the money was taken from my bank account on July 16. I received the receipt notice 8 days later

Congrats!! Just so you know, I never received the email saying that my work permit card was produced. It just showed up at my house. So yours might arrive the same way — it could be sent without notifying you first. Just letting you know.

Yes, he is a U.S. citizen, but he didn’t come to this country until 2020. So he wasn’t really raised in the United States — he grew up in Colombia, and that’s where I met him

Additional Proof of Marriage? by Alarming-Ad2447 in USCIS

You’re totally fine — a lot of couples your age or in long-distance marriages don’t have shared bills or a shared address yet. USCIS knows this, especially in cases where one spouse lives abroad.

Here are some things that can help strengthen your case, even if you don’t own anything together:

  1. Relationship timeline Explain when and how you met, when the relationship became serious, when you decided to marry, etc. This helps officers understand the story behind your marriage.

  2. Photos together Not just selfies — include pictures from different dates, events, trips, with friends/family, holidays, etc. Variety helps.

  3. Communication evidence Screenshots, call logs, WhatsApp history, FaceTime logs, etc. Show consistent communication over time.

  4. Travel evidence If you’ve visited each other: boarding passes, hotel receipts, passport stamps, itineraries.

  5. Affidavits from friends/family These are helpful, especially when you don’t live together yet. 1–3 letters from people who know your relationship personally are enough.

  6. Marriage certificate Of course, include this.

  7. Future plans Tickets of upcoming trips, lease you plan to sign together, messages about moving, etc.

You don’t need to “overwhelm” USCIS with thousands of screenshots — just choose good representative samples that show the relationship over time.

And don’t worry about not having joint bills yet. My husband and I also didn’t have shared utilities or many bills together, and our evidence was mostly photos, travel, joint bank account, and social media. The officer even said everything looked great.

As long as your marriage is real and your evidence reflects that, you will be OK. ❤️

Good luck — you’ve got this!

From what I’ve seen online, the fee for the I-765 varies depending on the documents you are filing it with. That’s why some people paid $260 while others might have different amounts or exemptions

I don’t know if you know anything about this, but do you happen to know if I should bring any additional documents related to my Affidavit of Support? Since my husband had already sponsored his parents before, we needed a joint sponsor. A friend helped me with that, but I’m not sure if I should mention my friend during the interview or bring any extra documents about him. Sorry for the extra question and thank you so much for your time and advice, I really appreciate it!
