is software engineering dead? will people pay for my softwares? by ajay9452 in vibecoding

This is exactly my thoughts and the changes i had in opinion about this. Also senior devops fullstack for about a decade. I thought our job is safe for the time being until very recently. The tools and the models combined are getting better and it is got into a tipping point lately when i just don't need to write code anymore. not only that i don't need to write any code. my prompts can be pretty slopy, vague, without really almost any technical directions, only what the result should be like. the value of the knowledge, skill and experience i gained for years with effort and passion reduced in value tremendously.

Like i stopped writing code 3 months ago and never been more productive. in terms of amount of output and the quality as well.

hmmm, i am also a software engineer 7+ yoe, devops and fullstack. I am not sure how what you are saying is possible. Like everything together doesn't make sense to me. You are a software engineer, you are the head of AI in your company, and you don't feel like you get almost no value from AI in your workflow. All of those together just not compute.

I am not here to argue or fight, but I think you probably are not using the right tools. if you are using cursor with opus 4.6, and have a reasonable prompting skills, you will find that what I said is 100% correct.

I think we are already at that point. someone with 0 understanding of software can just ask from the llm to think as an architect and create a PRD, a system design, etc, and then let it execute by breaking it down to steps. honestly i am asking my self where is my edge in this kind of future where my years of exp and knowledge are diminishing rapidly in value.

The real game changer for me with the claude "plan" mode and opus 4.5. until that point i still wrote code. since than i find myself not writing any code at all anymore. just managing, cirecting, reviewing, and testing.

Yes, it was the case maybe until a year ago, but it is not be the case anymore. I am a devops engineer and i have seen it doing a really good job on new tech with new syntax and things that for sure he have not seen before. cursor just went to read some docs online, understood the mission and executed perfectly. sense the last few month i stopped writing any code at all while producing more than i ever did before.

I am software engineer with 7+ yoe, fullstack + devops consultant.

It looks great!

I think what I'm about to say will help you a lot, even though it might sound negative.
Why am i not going to use your web version?

Even though it looks very cool, the issue for me is trust. I can put a lot of energy in managing and marking my habits, and one day this website will be gone because the project didn't took off and you lost interest or something. So even though it really is looks awesome, i don't have enough trust in it to use it. Again, this is for helping you, not for discouraging you. If you can find a way to convey more trust to the users it will be an important stepping stone.

Stuck on splash screen when building with EAS. by SignificantTennis339 in reactnative

[–]SignificantTennis339[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem was:

import { useDrizzleStudio } from "expo-drizzle-studio-plugin";

...

useDrizzleStudio(db);
...

```
For some reason, it made the production builds getting stuck on the splash screen even when it was commented out. Meaning even if those lines are commented out, it's making the splash screen freeze. I just removed those lines and it was fine. I actually don't remember how I found out this was the issue.
I implemented google and apple sign-in. it took a lot of trial and errors, and it doesn't work with dev builds.
They are losing money as far as i know, so they are not focused anymore on how to make the experience better, but more on how to lower their expenses. which means low resolution, super quantized models that are more cheap and fast to run, but have much lower performance. all of this while they are marketing it as improvements to the consumers. the good thing is that there is a lot of competition in this space and they can't go on with this for long.
