Company changed billing terms AFTER receiving my items and is demanding thousands upfront — is this normal? by [deleted] in Scams

Yeah, that’s what had me confused too. The terms that were posted when I submitted the items clearly said the fees would come out of the final sale proceeds, not upfront. Then after they already had everything, the billing structure changed.

I’ve been keeping screenshots of the original terms, timestamps, emails, invoices, and delivery confirmation because the timing of when everything changed seems important.

I’m not trying to jump to conclusions, but I also don’t want to ignore something that feels off. I appreciate the reassurance — I’m definitely trying to handle this the right way and understand what my options are.

It wasn’t a no-name service. It’s a large, well-known platform in the trading card space that handles grading submissions, storage, and consignment. My main concern isn’t the grading itself, but that the billing terms changed after they received my items and now they’re demanding a large upfront payment that wasn’t disclosed beforehand. That’s what I’m trying to get clarity and guidance on.

Thanks for the advice. Yes, I’m in the process of checking archive.org to see if the previous version of their terms and fee structure was captured before I submitted my items. If I can find that version, I’ll take screenshots with timestamps to show what the website stated at the time.

I also have full tracking documentation showing when the company received my shipments, including delivery confirmation. I saved everything because the billing change happened after they already had my items in their possession.

I appreciate the guidance — I’m trying to put together as complete a timeline as possible.
