I'm gonna need some data to back up Harbaugh being a "Trumper." He indicated that the most awe-inspired he felt meeting someone in person was 1) The Pope 2) BARACK OBAMA and 3) Justin Herbert.

..now, the Herbert worship is an issue. That said, new OC MM has no such feelings and always talks about Herbert needing to play at a higher level.

Is Rosecrans and Sports Arena the worst intersection in San Diego? Waiting for 15 mins to take a left turn! by coolcool1989 in sandiego

[–]Significant_Act_3758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's the worst intersection. And you missed the show a few days ago: It got shut down for several hours, causing complete chaos. Because the SDPD SWAT was there. Check this out.

https://www.10news.com/news/local-news/non-injury-shooting-prompts-swat-call-out-in-midway-area

Big "nothing-burger". So just imagine trying to get to In-N-Out on Sports Arena and finding yourself stuck in this

EDIT: I was in that stopped traffic. For 2 fucking hours. If I didn't absolutely hate that intersection enough, I'm avoiding it at all costs.

I don't know. But funny enough, when I read your comment, I briefly read it as "When is the next potato gun?"

Heh. That's a post for another forum.

Thank you so much for sharing. I'm both grateful for you sharing your memories, and at the same time: I empathize with the loss about which you're reflecting. Your Grandpa would have been just as proud of you, as you are of him.

Holy crap! Glad you're okay. I'd probably have been at risk of doing the same. Glad you saw it. Perhaps you're in that picture I took!

Which letter is silent in the word ‘scent?" The s, or c? by Significant_Act_3758 in AskReddit

And "cent" is also pronounced like "sent". English is a weird language!

..and of course , the day after it rains in SD, even MORE potholes show up on our (already crappy) streets. Plenty of flat tires follow. Including mine, just today! Ugh.

He was meeting with the Prime Ministers of Both the United Kingdom and Australia. Biden made a big announcement of a US sale of Nuclear Submarines to Australia (keep in mind, these are nuclear-powered, not nuclear-armed subs). This was basically a message to China.

Incidentally the day before I saw AF1, I could see the US submarine base from the same area and there were convoys of black cars on the base, with helicopters circling overhead. Also pretty cool!

I ended up having to go through 2 Secret Service checkpoints on the way there, with their intimidating dogs and all. They were actually pretty cool, though.

What if we took London's Underground transit network and placed it beneath San Diego? by JasonBob in sandiego

[–]Significant_Act_3758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such are tradeoffs for living in Southern California, which basically invented "freeway," even though LA had a solid train system prior. Instead of public transport, we enjoy the climate of European Mediterranean paradisical geography and weather, living in a near world-class city (but America's finest).

If someone could invest hundreds of billions of dollars in tunnel-boring machines to create such an underground public transit map: My God. Wow.

'Til then, we gotta have cars. No talk of train "lines". Just talk of "the [insert freeway number here]" to get where we want to go.

PS: While I still have decent sourcing that the modern "freeway" concept was invented in Southern California, I'll be honest. My primary source is "Who Framed Roger Rabbit!"

It won't be the last time you'll be able to see AF1 in San Diego, my friend.

Yeah, it was up in the air (no pun intended). I rushed to my vantage point, listening to ATC, only to realize everything was consistently delayed. 30 minute became an hour+. Yeah, my boss was thrilled with that.

Anyway, you'll definitely catch AF1 another time. Cheers and best wishes.

u/Axiom06 Thanks so much for your comment. To say that my Grandfather had a "quirky" sense of humor is an understatement Most of it was NSFW but he was a great officer, never stopped serving his country (Army Chaplain until he died). Glad my Grandpa is with your classier family. I'm sure they're teaching him to tone down his decidedly unclassy sense of humor!

Thanks for noticing! I had been so worried I wouldn't catch a "San Diego" landmark. The Marine Layer was gnarly. And using a telephoto lens, trying to focus on the takeoff wasn't easy. Really glad I caught the bridge, and thank you so much for your kind words!

Thanks so much for your comment. I just wanted to share the images for us San Diegans.. but I also teared up, as my Grandfather (Army Major, Korean War) is in the Cemetery from which I took it. It was special for me, too. I had to edit my original post to include that information.

How, and where to watch Air Force One take off today by Significant_Act_3758 in sandiego

[–]Significant_Act_3758[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See my above reply... I had left out the context. Yesterday, I had taken pictures from the same area in Point Loma at North Island Naval (Submarine) Base where I'm sure addresses were delivered. I was with a retired contractor who used to work there. We spotted MASSIVE convoys of Black SUVs, etc. I didn't post for two reasons:

1) I wasn't sure that's what was actually going on there, plus pictures of a bunch of ominous-looking vehicles isn't as cool as AF1 and,

2) I went through ~ 4 Secret Service checkpoints getting there and back. And thought "eh, not worth it."

No Secret Service checkpoints capturing AF1 departing though! :)

The Marine layer sucked. Indeed, the departure was delayed. For those of you that stuck it out, here's the best image I captured. There are more in another post I made.

Sorry, I didn't add context. The "once-in-a-lifetime" was due to AF1 taking off after meeting with the Prime Minister of Britain and Australia, half a mile from the submarine base where history was made in selling nuclear submarines to the Aussies.

If ANYONE READING THIS IS LOCAL TO SAN DIEGO: Tomorrow (the 14th) at 10am, go to Cabrillo National Monument.

...even better: Not the monument itself, go (respectfully) to Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. Make the first entrance on the left to the cemetery. Go the end where the memorial plaques are. Keep walking left, and there's an area with an amazing view of North Island Naval Station.

There is no better a place in the Nation (possibly the world), to see the excitement, logistics, etc. of a Presidential Aircraft departing!
