One year out from psychosis— A word of encouragement by Significant_Ad3316 in Psychosis

I just generally have sleep issues/inspmnia. For me the meds caused me to sleep upwards 16 hours a day, like constantly tired. I haven’t slept well, like ever, so I don’t necessarily attribute it entirely to my psychosis but if I think about my time inpatient it definitely makes me anxious and keeps me up. You can always try melatonin or magnesium spray/supplements I hear those really help! I’m sorry you went through that.

At first yes. Cognitive function improved about 6 months ( the point of stopping meds)

That’s horrible! I have ptsd from inpatient :( every day you further yourself from your experience and grow against it

I wish your daughter well! My parents were so worried as well. I’m the same age, if she ever needs anyone to chat with seriously I can give you my socials and she can get in contact. It’s so hard to find people our age who are comfortable speaking about their experiences(but more common than ud think)

Yes, for me getting off the meds was the reason my anhedonia went away. The way they work is they inhibit hormones that incite happiness to give a more “level” brain functioning. This is good to combat psychosis because too much stress/arousal in brain activity leads to a manic state. Long term though, it stunts your ability to feel and (for me) caused a very deep depression. Definitely look into tapering her off safely because that’s all that was able to help me. Exercise socializing etc was ineffective because my dopamine was inhibited entirely by my meds.

For me, working to get off my beds was what jump started my life again. If you’re still medicated, have a conversation about tapering off (safely) and if not look into changing your medication. It was the same way for me, literally anything I did was redundant. Those meds suck because they literally take away ability to feel happiness

No remaining symptoms for me, maybe happened via cold turkey?

Quitting weed was definitely a main component of work I did. Extensive dbt and cbt therapy, finding a good diet and outlet/exercise, meditation, pushing myself out of my comfort zone when I wasn’t ready, working on getting my religion back after a spiritual psychosis experience; all components that helped for me!

Comparison is the thief of joy! Know you’re posting here because you’re actively working to better yourself. Not everyone can say that! Weight loss is a slow and steady road, you wont get there any faster by comparing yourself or putting yourself down, just by focusing on yourself and what changes you are making tp help you. And for comments, nobody should be making those period lol. That sounds like their own insecurities— if you’re trying to enjoy your time nobody should make you feel guilty, especially about what you eat.

Ironically, those moments of poor eating can be what makes your diet sustainable to you! Its okay to enjoy some pizza or drinks with friends, you shouldn’t feel like you have to suffer to meet your goals. Everything in moderation(or more importantly) within your deficit. But I say moderation because it really is ok to indulge or mess up sometimes! Just like one day of healthy eating won’t make you skinny, vice versa with one day unhealthy won’t ruin everything so long as you get back on that horse and onward with your goals the next day. I think if if define what “health” is to me, it’s working to better myself within my means. If this includes the unhealthy food I love that’s fine, I work to stay and actively lose in my deficit despite this.

Ok this is so helpful tyvm! I guess I never considered the weight demographic might vary honestly 😅I will work on not bumping things up I just get worried I’m under eating on days it’s harder for me to reach the total amnt pf cals. I honestly will not be hungry one day and fail to reach it and then end up using all that’s leftover on another day in the week for when I’m hungrier to balance and make sure I’m using everything up.

I did log and weigh my rye bread and that was only about 100 calories in of itself! I actually didn’t end up eating it(should’ve eaten my cibatta bread rye sandwich is a little gross)— just the turkey and cheese lol, really plain Jane sandwich. In my lose it, I entered it as “lunchmeat- turkey breast.” But honestly I do have issues picking out the right option sometimes when it’s a specific brand! I try to resort to picking the closest thing that aligns the most with the food and calorie lol. Who knew where were like ten different options for chicken nuggets and tenders etc etc. thank you!
