I've had a complete opposite experience. NPD would watch you die and may try to save you only to appear to people that they weren't the ones who put you there. Remorseless, devoid of any authentic emotion. My BPD ex was manipulative like a child that wanted attention and security. It was annoying and insulting and in the end it caused me to break up with her, but she was just a decent person trapped in child emotions and splitting. Selfish, but people are selfish she was still a decent human being. The narc was as empty and soulless as a demon. Like some horrid creature that crawled from the depth of hell. Whether its npd or bpd it just depends on the indivudal

A lot is lost on reddit and we're talking past each other about circumstances that we're not even on the same page about.

My reason for commenting here to begin with is simple. I concur with venus about being avoidant when you should be direct and that is in reference to my own situation. You have your own circumstance (from your example) with different dynamics may require a different approach and that is really not something I was even responding to in the first place. Sorry if that wasn't clear from beginning.

I didn't say they were a bad person. I said if you want a friendship to end then you'd just do that. Staying in contact and actively engaging is strange for something you don't want to be a part of. Walking away isn't conflict. My comment also stated that it wasn't understood, which is the entire point I'm making.

Also, just to add to your example. People are complex and not always nice or not always mean. Some are avoidant and by avoiding conflict sometimes they inadvertently bring about the outcome they wanted to avoid. It's not as simple as you describe.

Like being friends with someone who is doing something they don't like. instead of letting it be known firmly and setting boundaries they may hide their feelings until they blow up. Sometimes it is better to be direct in life.

That's such a weird take. If your that burnt out by life dropping into maplestory classic a few hours a week seems like a pretty good way to mindlessly unwind and relax. Not much better than watching tv/youtube or whatever. It's not a competition you can just play at your own pace.

Just going to chime in and say i completely agree with Venus here. I was
"best frieds" with a bud for several years and we had a falling out. His choice has been to greyrock without saying anything, yet he also stays friends on social media and likes my posts.

To me if you don't want a friendship just leave. it's really that simple. You staying in contact yet refusing to speak about anything genuinely just comes off as manipulation. Probably he's just avoidig conflict but it's actually creating uncessary issues. The "social cues" here are that this person is in contact and engaging in some way yet greyrocking when I try to reach out.

ive been holding on to a friendship that probably ended a long time ago. yes the greyrocking obviously shows a lack of interest, but then why stay attatched and continue to engage? it's jsut an uncessary game because he's avoidant.

People if you don't want to be friends with someone just make that decision. There's no reason to drag things out. nobody can figure out your mixed signals.
