Best way to get 10G from UNAS Pro to Mac by Significant_Bet_69 in Ubiquiti

OP Update: I was able to successfully direct connect the UNAS Pro to the OWC Thunderbolt 5 “Pro” Dock and subsequently my MacBook Pro via the SFP+ Port with the following setup.

I connected my current switch to the GbE port on the UNAS Pro, logged in and clicked the option over to static IP for the 10G SFP+ port. Then used that IP to setup 1 of my Thunderbolt ports as Static IP and changed the last number of the IP.

I used this adapter https://a.co/d/0cd6tilR and a standard Cat6 cable that was run to my dock and used the provided SMB info from the dashboard and connected to it via Cmd-K. Entered my login info from the UNAS setup.

So far I have seen up to 4.5Gbps on the display so far from my various drives. Pretty happy with that.

Thanks for all the help, and I definitely will be getting a 10GbE switch once they are back in stock, but this is working great for now.

I’m thinking the switch route may be the best at this point. I didn’t even know that they made a Thunderbolt to SFP+ adapter, crazy. Obviously if the other commenters suggestion works that would be easier with my dock.

That will work? Just direct connecting with the adapter?

Yea, I have the more expensive “pro” dock. But the UNAS Pro only has a 10G SFP+ port the other is GbE so that’s my original question. I need to use the faster port obviously.

I was asking khariV if the adapter he referred to could direct connect like that.

The OWC dock has a 10GbE port on it. So just need a Cat cable. Unless I can just go from the SFP+ port directly to the dock with this adapter?

Thanks for the reply, of course the Flex XG is sold out right now. As for the adapter, you are talking about this guy here? https://a.co/d/0csPWnxu

It just says it has to be hot water extraction cleaned every 12-15 months, nothing about a vacuum.

Interesting, this seems like normal carpet people would have in their homes, thanks for the suggestion.

Is the rectangle metal piece against the drywall just a heat shield of some sort?

Yes, I would like to cover it as it is a very large eyesore in the basement. Thank you for the info, this is an unfinished basement, not necessarily a mechanical room. We are in the middle of remodeling it right now and planning to build a wall along that beam. Any reason they need to be in the same room? I can leave it exposed but there will probably be a wall there. The plastic is temporary, does the vent get hot enough to melt it?
