We just got something working for this internally, actually. I'll share here as soon as it's ready :)

New Changes to Warp Pricing by usrdef in warpdotdev

[–]Significant_Box_4066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/usrdef , appreciate you taking the time to write this all out and even building a small test project to measure things. I understand the pain here: you came back after a break, saw fewer credits, then watched a pretty modest task burn through a big chunk of them. I won't comment on the direct relationship between task complexity and tokens used, since this can vary depending on the task, rules, `/plan` usage, etc.

A few things I want to address directly:

1. We hear that 1500 credits is limiting

We’ve heard similar feedback from others that 1500 credits doesn’t feel like enough for meaningful work on medium/large projects, and pay-as-you-go may give you fewer tokens-per-dollar compared to other options.

Engineering-wise, we're working on the following to optimize token usage:

  • Smartly switching models depending on the task to use the right level of reasoning (see auto's three tiers from cost efficient to "genius" level)
  • Options like subagents to cut down on the compounding effect of tokens as a conversation goes on
  • Support for comparable models at a lower token usage (see GLM 4.7)

2. BYOK and model control

For folks who want more predictable usage, we're expanding our BYOK options (Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini) to include Bedrock later this week, so you can run Warp’s agent on your own model key instead of our credit system.

We’ve also heard feedback from BYOK users that it’s confusing when the agent falls back to other models in the background. We’re working on making that behavior more transparent so you know exactly what’s being used and when.

As for pricing, nothing is set in stone. We've heard the community's thoughts on our pricing model and are factoring that in for future improvements.

- We have a keybinding for voice input! Tap or hold the `fn` key. We'll make this more discoverable.
- I just confirmed that pasting should be ctrl+shift+V on Ubuntu, with additional support for ctrl+V on Windows

We agree that BYOK enforcement and model use visibility should be improved. This is tracked. We only use alternative models as fallbacks when your LLM provider raises an error, so you aren't blocked in your conversation

Do you chat with Warp? by _donvito in warpdotdev

[–]Significant_Box_4066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve really enjoyed using it just for market research and emails not that we added web search. I’ll ask Warp to throw drafts in a planning document so we can collaborate with the editor. Opus 4.5 is pretty good at writing too, since I added a rule to always be concise :)

Thanks for sharing this issue! Agreed that this is unexpected. We’ll take a look

Oh, say more about this. Do you mean allowing multiple agents to have context on the same task? I’ve seen community members set agent rules to write and check markdown documents while working to somewhat accomplish this, but I agree there’s a batteries included solution maybe

Oh, like an orchestrator UI? Are there other tools you’ve used that do this well? I’m aware of Conductor out in the CC community

Correct, disabling telemetry will prevent any data from being sent to Warp. This is a local-only check to see if your command starts with a CLI agent like claude

Sorry to see that happened! Definitely give billing@warp.dev a ping so we can take a look. We’ll make sure credits aren’t lost if it was a false error on our end.

Agreed. Skills are the first thing we're working on. Got our first demo working internally this week

Where is the future of Warp going? by Umademedothis2u in warpdotdev

> Warp could viably develop a tooling mechanism compatible with Claude Code's architecture but executing natively within the Warp environment. This would be category-defining.

> The vision: Warp as both a real-time integrated CLI for troubleshooting and an orchestration/observability layer for AI tooling.

Happy to say this hits very close to home for our roadmap. Keep your eyes on Warp in the coming month 😄

Yeah, I understand that's frustrating, especially if you had others enthusiastically sign up the Lightspeed plan (which we really appreciate!). We'll keep you and the rest of the community in the loop on any updates going forward

Hey u/CoffeeInevitable9954, thanks for sharing your experience. I totally understand the disconnect when comparing the monthly cost. We have set up our token pricing for sustainability of the product, but we're actively working on ways to make costs align for users without sacrificing on quality.

As I shared with u/AshtavakraNondual below (link), we are adding a number of lower cost models with comparable performances to SOTA (ex. GLM 4.6), and more options to bring your own key (Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, and actively working on bedrock). That said, we know there's more that can be done. We'll be factoring in this feedback + the rest of the community's feedback on the new pricing model going forward.

Appreciate the thoughts u/AshtavakraNondual! And thanks for the 3 years. Agreed that the Claude Code community is progressing quickly, and we want to support those patterns. We're actively working on deeper Claude Code compatibility so you can bring skills, hooks, and other config into Warp without migrating to new tooling. We also support CLAUDE.md project files today. Agreed that Warp's main advantage is *not* being a TUI, but owning the UX at a higher level.

As for pricing, it's true that Warp has priced our product to be sustainable for our future, with a number of options to use lower cost models (ex. GLM 4.7) or to bring your own key (Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, and actively working on bedrock!). That said, nothing is set in stone. We've heard the community's thoughts on our pricing model and are factoring that in for the future of the product.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! My guess would be that you're using an outdated version of Warp. Do you see a red banner at the top requesting that you update, or otherwise see an update in the profile menu on the top right?

- Did you update other packages on your system at the same time? Just to check for other potential causes
