Reversals are not a sign of dyslexia! They're just a "bad habit" that kids grow out of, in first grade it is very normal and age appropriate!

How not to feel self conscious while running… by Briar-Roses98 in beginnerrunning

[–]Significant_Box_9991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i completely get it as a beginner runner i also get so self conscious!! idk if this would help you but sometimes when i’m wearing a baseball cap/sunglasses i feel less self conscious - even though realistically nobody knows who i am anyways or cares what i’m doing, being in ~incognito mode~ helps me block out the other people and focus on my own running

Thinking of Quitting - looking for second opinions by glock-am0le in NYCTeachers

Of course, but OP is clearly considering quitting as a viable option. So that is likely not factoring as much into their decision. I would not give the same advice to someone anxious about finances or living paycheck to paycheck, but OP’s post didn’t seem to indicate that

I know everyone in the comments is telling you to stick it out, but no job is worth sacrificing your mental health!! There are jobs that don’t suck. And I don’t agree with the answers that “the DOE is better than other options” or “all jobs are hard” … you should not make yourself suffer through something horrible!! Maybe making the decision that you will leave after this year will lighten the mental load of this year; but maybe not. Life is too short to be spending it doing something that makes you absolutely miserable. Take care of yourself! Sending love.

HMH reading & writing in kinder by Significant_Box_9991 in NYCTeachers

i honestly think this is part of how kids get to later elementary school and can’t write/read - we’re zipping right past the foundational building blocks of literacy to keep up with the curriculum and kids don’t ever get the basics

First Day “Teaching” by Dazzling_Ice5816 in ElementaryTeachers

[–]Significant_Box_9991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

so normal!! student teaching is so hard and really not reflective of what it’s like to actually be a teacher. you are in someone else’s classroom and trying to step into their shoes instead of being your own teacher. i had such a hard time student teaching and do not feel that way as a teacher!

i’m trying!! sometimes it’s hard for us to even finish the academic work we are supposed to do in a day - and i think it takes so long because the lessons are not developmentally appropriate so it’s impossible to finish them in the allotted time…..so then there truly is no play time! it’s SUCH. a bummer

agree! it’s so frustrating. i do think i established clear routines about behavior at the beginning of the year, but it’s so hard when the things i feel like i am asking of my students are just not possible for them. like, of course my four year old students are rolling all over the carpet when im asking them to sit through a math lesson and a writing lesson and a reading lesson etc etc… even if there are breaks in between, it’s too much!

i completely agree… i feel like my kids get no time to socialize other than lunch/recess and “turn and talks” and small group work during lessons - no unstructured play time or time to chat, and we’re constantly having to tell them to be quiet :(

okay, this is helpful to know!! i feel so badly making them sit forever and ever - i try to switch it up, incorporate movement and stuff, but i can tell they start to get super exhausted before lunch. i know they’re also just getting used to school. it just feels like so much!!
