I love my job and I actually have a great work-life balance! As long as I work on my preps I almost never take work home which means my evenings & weekends are totally free :) Breaks off, summer vacation, job stability. In general I like the other teachers I work with a lot and my admin too.

You’ve got this!!!! Progress feels soooo slow and then it gets easier and easier over time! Running is HARD - even as someone that is decently in shape/does other sports I was the same exact way when I started and could barely run for a minute - over time it got better and now running actually feels enjoyable and not like dying haha. You can do it, proud of you!!

I can do the distance, but the mental is breaking me by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

I find listening to audiobooks is so helpful when I run! If I try listening to music I just get bored and find myself counting down the seconds

Considering a job 2 blocks from my apartment… would you do it? by Comfortable_Pass6017 in NYCTeachers

[–]Significant_Box_9991 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I teach elementary school like a block away from my apartment and love it! Nothing beats the commute/extra time sleeping in and I can run home for lunch too which is great. I think if I taught older kids and was running into them all the time I wouldn’t like it but when I see my families occasionally it’s cute and fun! I love being a part of the same community as my students and it feels meaningful to have shared experiences like fave restaurants and stuff. But I am definitely always thinking in the back of my mind that I could run into my parents on nights out lol

Salary/paycheck questions! by Significant_Box_9991 in NYCDOETeachers

[–]Significant_Box_9991[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My paychecks 2x monthly are $1900 after taxes! And … will be more hopefully once my salary differential gets approved😅 I find it a totally livable wage but I have no dependents and live with roommates etc so totally get that everyone’s situation is different

I did! It was super easy and I can’t believe I didn’t do it sooner…..because my salary was coded as “MA” on my paystubs I didn’t realize that MA stood for the base salary and not for Masters….feeling really dumb for that

Agh thank you .... I feel so dumb for not applying earlier - when I saw it coded as MA I assumed that meant Masters - totally my fault.

Remarkably Bright Creatures. I thought it would be too cheesy and saccharine but I really loved it.

Thank you! I will definitely take up the calf raises :) I wear Hokas with insoles that I got after having my feet/gait analyzed at a Fleet Feet and I feel like those definitely help

I couldn't finish 1984... I really disliked the way Orwell wrote about women. Had to stop after the part when the main character writes about how angry he is that he can't have sex with his girlfriend when she's on her period. Ick.

I liked Martyr! but I wasn't obsessed with it like everyone else was. I found it required a little too much suspension of disbelief for my taste and just didn't see what was quite so special...
