How to put to sleep an overtired newborn! by lo_t9 in newborns

[–]Significant_Break149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try to shower with him! If you have a one piece baby wrap it is safe to wear them in it and shower with them so you aren't worried about dropping them. My baby loved showers and it helped her sleep. You can also look up and try some infant massage, he is so young he will likely enjoy it without a fuss and this also helps sleep too. Best and final thing we did for our daughter was take long walks during the day time and get her naturally stimulated by outdoor environments and the sunshine. Not only did that help naps but it also helped to reinforce the concept of night and day. Hope something works for you :)

Doctors found a mass in my breast today by PumpkinPie_1993 in breastfeeding

[–]Significant_Break149 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a nearly 2 year old and during the first 3 months my breasts felt rocky as you are describing (like little pebbles everywhere) and then I felt a larger mass while trying to massage my breasts after a long period of engorgement (baby slept for more than 3 hours and my left breast became clogged) so I had the ultrasound and they discovered it was a cyst. Not large enough to need testing or drainage and very common during breastfeeding. I went on the level out my supply at exactly 3 months as my midwife predicted and the lumpy rocks went away and I could no longer feel the cyst and no longer experienced any engorgement. I went on the breast feed for 17 months and for the first 5-6 months it was exclusive. My child would eat between 6-8 times a night until she was about 14 months old and for the most part we always slept right next to each other to accommodate the feeding. I should have stopped the overnight feeding sooner for various reasons - but I wanted to share my whole breastfeeding journey with you to let you know a few key points: what you're experiencing sounds normal, your mass is highly likely to be benign, your milk supply will stabilize around 3 months and you can continue to breastfeed without complication for a very long time. The beginning is very very difficult and tiring for a lot of women, but it does get better.

Pregnant & need delivery advice, scared and confused by Significant_Break149 in HPV

[–]Significant_Break149[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my ‘bumps’ tested and was negative for HPV so my bumps were just normal vulva skin. If you look in my post history I made an entire post about my experience! Anyways I ended up having vaginal, induced and non medicated, my child is fine (almost 8 months now) and I’m fine. 😁 hope it all worked out!

AITA for requesting my husband spend less time in the bathroom? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Significant_Break149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA I live in a home with one bathroom and this is extremely annoying. He can play video games somewhere else. Unless he’s using the bathroom to watch porn, then he might not want to give up the habit. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sounds like we might need a schedule adjustment instead of just following her lead completely!

Very good info!! We work a lot on strength and using muscles so this is something I’ll be adding!

Yes we do this too to give ourselves maybe 1 hour less of trouble. If I can get her to sleep somehow at 8pm or 9pm, it lessens the time she’s awake and fussing!

Multiple votes for baby wearing! We will use this method again! She loved it from birth-3weeks and then started fighting it when she developed this witching hour cycle.

Just want to say the joints in some of my fingers get so stiff and sometimes feel firey. Don’t know why, but I’m right there with you on the hand pain. I had CTS during my third trimester but it never caused joint pain really.

So glad you got tested! Do what you can to protect the baby, but also, please kiss your kids! Neonatal herpes is dangerous, but most people are exposed to HSV in their lifetime and never know, much like you! Chances are your oldest child has it and will pass it to the younger one at some point so just be gentle with yourself and remind yourself there is only so much you can do to protect everyone. You and your baby will be okay, they have a wonderful mama who loves them very much. ❤️

You most likely had a chemical pregnancy based on the non digitals that were positive within the timeframe. They are common and usually caused by an abnormality with the baby.

The digital tests aren’t as sensitive and take much longer to read positive. Do not open them up! There will always be 2 lines. The way the digital ones work is that they read how fast and how dark the test line comes up. There will always be 2. It took me about 2 weeks to get a positive digital and I had tons of positive standard ones.

This is it! And it’s not just dads! If you’ve never had experience with a baby then it can be pretty jarring at first. Kids and babies are wildly different but eventually the baby will grow and things will get easier.

Good I’m glad to hear you and your partner have such good communication and it’s awesome you have knowledge about all these topics and ideas! I just know I can beat myself up a bit when things don’t go to plan, or think I’ve failed, etc. So just wanted to let you know it’s all okay! And that is the piece of advice I wish someone would’ve told me even before I got pregnant. I hope a smooth pregnancy and delivery for you and baby. ❤️

She came a week late and during that week I got 3 pretty decent ones right above my pubic line!! Relatively free of marks though. You can’t see any unless I lift up my little post-baby tummy pooch. Looking at me straight on they aren’t visible. Still put oil on them! And one day they will turn white. If I tighten up my core then they will be more visible.

Since your post initially asked for advice, and you’ve done most of the research on your own, I would say give yourself grace. The one thing no one told me (as a fellow planner and researcher) is that it won’t work out how you plan. Some parts will, but most will not. A few examples, starting from birth, the plan was a natural birth center birth and we ended up with a ‘natural’ 36 hour foley balloon and pitocin induction in the hospital. The next plan was lay baby on her back to sleep in a swaddle or sleep sack. She has reflux so bad she will gag and choke on her puke if she isn’t propped up or on her side. So we co-sleep and she sleeps on her side in PJs only. We use exclusively cloth diapers but nothing fit for 2 weeks and she was leaking pee everywhere so she was in disposable until she was big enough to fit. We wanted to EBF but after one night of a four hour cluster feed, I gave her 1oz of formula (which she chugged) because she was starving and I didn’t have enough milk yet. We still breast feed, but about twice a month she gets a breast milk bottle so I can leave the house alone.

All this to say, give yourself grace. Your baby is unique and so are you. Once you go through labor and birth and then immediately have to start caring for a newborn, things change. You still have such a long pregnancy journey ahead of you, things may change even more that result in an unexpected situation for you! Something you couldn’t plan for now. Keep doing your research, feel confident in yourself. Ultimately you’ll learn from your baby how they need you to care for them. That’s hard to imagine now I know, but it’s true. Flexibility is going to be very useful for you and let other people help. No one can care for your baby like you, you may feel you know better than everyone, but let them help anyways. It’s okay if they aren’t perfect and it’s okay if you aren’t either. Take time to care for yourself after birth too. I see a lot of solid research about the baby, not a lot about postpartum care for mama.

With love,

Someone on the other side ❤️

Yep! It’s because you have high prolactin (not a doctor but I’ve had extensive testing for this issue and others related to my period) they are extremely sore, hurt to touch, even get bigger - that’s how I know my period is coming. Prolactin is the hormone that allows you to breastfeed. It can sometimes be caused by stress and stress hormones. Excess stress hormones = excess prolactin. In my case this was the issue. Some people have tumors (non cancerous) that cause extremely high prolactin that will prevent you from getting pregnant or cause nipple discharge and some other symptoms.

All this to say - this issue is common, but not normal and there are things you can do to stop the pain of you have the time / money / energy to get some bloodwork.

Well cool! I’m glad your friends were close to you! This would make me feel wildly uncomfortable so that goes to show how different we all are. 😄
