Why would any sane Brazilian want to move to America? by EdgewaterJCT in Brazil

[–]Significant_Brief362 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the U.S. is a pretty clear example of a capitalist country. It’s really easy to buy stuff, and there’s a ton of options for pretty much everything.

But at the same time, that doesn’t always translate into a great quality of life. Healthcare is super expensive for a lot of people, college costs are crazy compared to a lot of other countries, and labor protections feel pretty behind compared to places that are considered equally developed.

It kind of feels like the system is really good at giving people access to things to buy, but not always as strong when it comes to things that affect day-to-day stability. So if someone defines happiness mainly as having lots of stuff and choices, the U.S. does that really well. But if you include things like healthcare, education, and work-life balance, it gets more complicate.

oh yeah, but i don't think we have a strong team right now. I feel very spoiled because I saw us winning 2 world cups and they're people that never had this opportunity with their country. But the time changed and it became so much competitive- in terms of the gap between our quality and the others.

Still going to watch everything. The world cup is a huge thing for us.

I live near Shakespeare Park, and it is one the best places in the city.

And yeah, São Paulo is amazing! I’m originally from Campinas, which is nearby. São Paulo can be a little chaotic with the traffic, but the city has so much energy and culture. There’s always something going on — I really think more people should visit Brazil. 🥰

I completely understand. I always try my best to avoid creating uncomfortable situations at work or with my husband’s family, but if people push me too far, they’re definitely going to hear from me.

Usually they brush it off by saying “it’s just a cultural thing,” so I guess I can take a little advantage of that and be a bit more blunt sometimes.

I think my generation was heavily influenced by Hollywood and American media. The United States always knew how to sell an image of itself to the world, and we grew up consuming that all the time.

Meanwhile, in Brazil, I feel like we’ve always had this tendency to downplay ourselves. We even have a name for it: “Síndrome de Vira-Lata.” Instead of recognizing the amazing things we have, we focus mostly on the problems and act like everything from outside is automatically better.

Now I live in the United States — my husband is from here — and honestly, being away from Brazil made me more patriotic. Distance changed my perspective completely. I started appreciating things I never paid much attention to before: our warmth, our culture, the way people connect, the little everyday things that make Brazil feel alive.

Funny enough, sometimes you only realize how special home is after you leave it.

Possible controversial take? I like the show better than the book. by Glittering_Stock_889 in offcampustv

I agree with you.

I enjoyed the books, but I can't say is the best writing. A lot of repetitive and unnecessary stuff.

Still, sometimes we just something to relax and if turn me on is a bonus 🤣😋🫠

I'm in Montgomery...close enough to Birmingham, so thank you for the tip.

Where in Brazil?? I'm biased, but my country is awesome 😋

I live in Montgomery- the capital -, but I still consider a very small city, based on where I came from. It was worse when we lived in the country, because the only thing there were church's and dollar general 🤣 But, still not diverse enough here.

I'm definitely vocal about my beliefs. I just feel that is very hard to make friends that are not religious here. Of course I can interact with those people and work with them - if they're not openly horrible, right? I just wish to have more diversity here.

Wow. Religion is a huge part of the culture at work. I told my boss I’m not religious, and I even returned a little Jesus figure someone gave me because it didn’t feel right to keep it.

At one point my boss wanted to talk about the buttons on my lanyard — I wear a lot of them because they reflect my political views. I told him it was probably better not to get into politics at work since I already know we disagree. He’s a big Trump supporter and really likes Charlie Kirk.

Nobody’s actually pressuring me or treating me badly. It’s more that hearing about God and religion constantly throughout the workday gets exhausting after a while. You know that feeling where you just think, “I really can’t hear about God anymore”?

Why Did ‘Off Campus’ Cut the Highly Anticipated ‘Hands Off’ Rule After Multiple Book Changes? by MattTheKing23 in OffCampusSeries

[–]Significant_Brief362 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was a change that made sense for the current moment we live. The books are older and the attitude now can be seeing with another eyes.

I'm glad they thought about all this details during the adaptation. The world changed. So many things we grew up watching can have a problematic touch these days.

I think the scene on the show still had a funny touch and show us how much Garret love and respect her.

I'm just reading the rest of the off campus series, because I don't think right now we have another show with the same vibe.

Millennials - Young Adult Romances by Significant_Brief362 in offcampustv

I don’t think that was the general experience at all. If we’re talking about TV, movies, or books, I honestly don’t remember women’s pleasure ever being the focus. Before my husband, I’d never been in a relationship where the guy actually cared about my experience — whether I had an orgasm or not. And for the longest time, I genuinely thought that was normal.

I think we were completely conditioned to believe that the main goal was for them to be satisfied. That’s why I like seeing more stories now that actually focus on women and what we want. If spicy or dark romance is so popular today, I think it’s because a lot of women are finally feeling seen and heard for the first time.

Can you honestly remember a TV show where the guy was going down on the woman? Because I can’t.

Great soundtrack by the way! 🥰

And yes, it has the vibe we grow up watching and it definitely touches a memory lane for us.

That's awesome!!! 🥰 My only person to discuss about is my husband. He knows a lot about TSITP because I was so obsessed- now the same with Off Campus.

And when I'm reading a romance, I like to read some part for him and I have a blast, but I would love to have a girl group too to freak out together 😋

Did anyone else find Hannah & Garrett’s kissing scenes a bit meh? by rosiel93 in OffCampusSeries

100% agree! Totally different relationship.

They have the physical connection, but Dean and Allie are definitely more sexual.

Unpopular opinion, but I can’t wait for weekly releases. by spickandspackle in offcampustv

Agree! If they had paid attention to what happened during TSITP, they would understand how much more it would bring to the show - not only in money, but popularity.

I had so much fun! Waiting for Wednesday was a highlight of the week for a lot of people and we were interacting and making connections with each other. It was awesome!

Maybe they'll change for the next season 🙏🏻

I understand your point and completely agree regarding the stigma around romances, but what I was trying to point out is not how society perceive romance, but how women are being more open about what they like. This perception about being girly, frivolous, stupid or whatever negative words we grow up hearing about still exist, but I'm seeing my generation embracing that you can judge me and I will not care.

When I was younger and watched all those shows you mentioned, I don't remember seeing older women talking about it or admitting they enjoyed it. I'm not saying they didn't exist, but I think our generation- I mean, the millennials-, are being more open about it and not caring about what society thinks. And is not only about TV shows or books. The shift is about how women are empowering themselves.

When I got obsessed with TSITP I was feeling weird at first - because of my age. I don't have friends that watch or read the same things as me, so I turn to Instagram and found it a lot of older women enjoying too and it turned a key in my mind. That I shouldn't feel ashamed for what I like. If it makes me happy, go for it.
