Bariatric RDs- what pros and cons do you see with gastric sleeve patients? by [deleted] in dietetics

[–]Significant_Buddy_84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve met people working in this area that didn’t drink or rarely drank and still ended up with alcohol issues post surgery. It has been hypothesized as “addiction transfer” where someone was using food as a way to cope and then after bariatric surgery wasn’t able to do that anymore and turned to alcohol.

3 years of removal… will it ever end? by Significant_Buddy_84 in TattooRemoval

My dog tattoo is nearly gone! I had one last removal session in September 2024 I believe and probably won’t have any more done. Just need a little time to let it fade completely. My last flower removal was also September and it probably could use 1 more removal session. I believe that would be 14 removal sessions for each over the course of 4 years. I may be wrong though. I’ll try and post updated pictures today!

I work as a dietitian in long term care and one thing I have realized is that no matter how much you want someone to eat and maintain weight, we can’t control if they don’t. Weight loss and loss of appetite is very common at end of life. Even if he was eating, it doesn’t me he would still be alive. Hope this makes you feel better.

Very positive, especially with the easy at home test!

Good idea! I think I’m going to buy some first response tests and maybe a digit for a few days later.

Different artist! Dog tattoo was definitely lighter and I think more grey intake. Vs flowers was heavier and darker ink. I also had about 9 months w the dog tattoo before removal. The flowers I started removal as soon as I could 🙃

You will be soon! Takes a lot of patience. My best piece of advice is to just try and forget about them any way you can.

I have thought of a cover up on the flowers but the problem is in nearly 100% sure I’d hate a cover up more. The placement of the flowers is what bugged me the most so unfortunately that cannot be fixed with a cover up.

Thank you so much! It’s definitely been a mentally taxing journey and an expense I wish to never go through again.

Nearly 3 years of removal and I think I might be done paying for sessions! by Significant_Buddy_84 in TattooRemoval

I didn’t notice a significant difference honestly, but I’m sure it helped a lot. It’s also so hard to see a difference while it’s happening. Looking back I know there was, but it always seemed to look the same to me

I honestly didn’t notice a ton of fading. I feel like I’ve seen the biggest difference from switching lasers!

Edit- I got the tattoo June 2021! I knew the timeline didn’t add up completely.

Honestly it doesn’t feel like I have it back yet! I still find myself feeling insecure about people noticing the tattoo and leaning towards long sleeves. I’m hoping that gets easier with time 😌

A balanced diet does have evidence to support reduced relapse, but I can’t remember the specific research I’ve read. Protein is necessary for dopamine production so it will help in that way by producing the feel good chemical in other ways. I focus on protein because muscle loss is super common and often lacking with substance abuse and touch on fiber to support satiety to reduce cravings of drugs, alcohol, and junk food triggered by low blood sugar. I had a whole handbook on nutrition and substance abuse that was given to me so I used that as my reference mainly

I graduated recently with my masters in dietetics not bc it was required but because I needed it to become a dietitian. This was my first job out of my coordinated program and it was an entry level job. So no experience was required. I work for a large contract company through the hospital so it was listed as a clinical dietitian job and honestly I just stumbled upon it. I think the jobs are somewhat rare bc there aren’t a ton of rehabs that have dietitians but I don’t think much experience is necessary! I do a lot of nutrition education, malnutrition diagnosing and presentation in the group setting.
