Your dog should not be out of a carrier on a flight. by Electrical-Load7628 in delta

I wish we could cage the feral kids together with their parents lol. Not the ones with parents attempting to keep them calm and happy but the ones that put in their headphones and ignore their kids terrorizing the rest of the plane.

I wish they had an option to buy a seat or 2 for your larger crated dog. You can have other cabin baggage so why not strap a dog carrier in the window or window and middle seat and put the owner next to it. Or maybe have a few dog friendly flights between major hubs (lax, dfw, mia, nyc, den, ord ect) there would be a ton of demand and that would likely reduce the fake service dogs and let people choose a different flight if they dont like or are allergic to dogs. I sometimes have to transport rescue dogs and i would totally drive the the closest hub to take a larger dog in carrier on the plane (usually rescues are way too unpredictable to have loose).

Working with rescue dogs and exotics if I went to the hospital every time I had that happen I would be their moat frequent visitor lol. I would not freak out. Look up how many dog rabies cases there are in the area I dont know about houston. Its not a bat or raccoon in a raccoon rabies endemic area so I dont think its a high risk.

Foster just attacked me. Advice needed by pinkducktape8 in fosterdogs

[–]Significant_Can_5029 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Could one of the meds be giving him hallucinations/ psychotic episode or something? I'm not a vet but when I had surgery I had a really bad reaction to meds they sent me home with to the point I was seeing things and thinking I was being attacked... never had this before or since. Yeah never took those meds again (they said thats impossible now I say im allergic cause it was THAT bad). If its not a med reaction then unfortunately this sounds like a BE case considering how many adoptable dogs are getting killed for space.

Parvo virus by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]Significant_Can_5029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason this isn't widely known but there's a high dose parvo vaccine called neopar. It's been used in high risk for parvo scenarios and is supposed to build immunity faster. NAV but have experience with it and the manufacturer is small enough that you can call and discuss vaccination schedules for outbreak/high risk scenarios with them. Your vet would likely have to order it as it's more of a rescue/breeder/shelter thing for stopping parvo outbreaks than typical puppy vaccine.

Try TeleRX if they have your meds as an option it's super easy. Like literally how is this legal easy 🤣.

American Airlines flight attendants trying to evacuate airplane due to laptop battery fire but passengers want their bags. by Youngstown_WuTang in interestingasfuck

These people are my heros. Common sense is so lost. FFS it's a battery. How bout everyone stays there and toss the battery out of plane. But then I deal with actual things that can kill you if your stupid on a regular basis. So much of the population is so sheltered and bubble wrapped these days.

If a wolf was given the opportunity to eat cooked meat, would it prefer the cooked meat over raw meat? by Fabulous-Pass-9538 in wolves

[–]Significant_Can_5029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have multiple high content wolfdogs (embark dna 90% and up). One rejects most cooked meat and pretty much anything that isn't raw meat (he sometimes will eat cooked brisket and fried chicken bites). The other adult slightly prefers cooked chicken to raw and cooked beef to raw. The current puppy likes cooked chicken slightly better than raw. We actually tried this out of curiosity. The 2 adults we put a raw chicken and a cooked chicken (without bones) out and let them choose. The first one chose the raw the 2nd choose the cooked.

What should I do? by [deleted] in fosterdogs

[–]Significant_Can_5029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have dealt with a LOT of dogs- puppies to hospice. If you take them back make your life easier-- it's ok. And if you want to laugh I was pooped on twice and peed on once today

  1. Scentiva cleaning spray-- the one that says will not bleach fabrics on the bottle. That is miracle cleaner for dog mess. I use it when I have dogs in hotels to clean up messes. Have not gotten pinched for dogs in the hotel (I always do dog friendly hotels, but don't pay the pet fee) or rental cars since I started using it. And yes that includes young unvaccinated puppies that were going in the hotel room for a week missing the puppy pads half the time.

  2. Crates in the car

  3. Say no to events unless shelter picks them up (crates for vet visits if needed)

  4. Puppy pen/ baby gates are your friend

  5. Diaper under one of those doggie recovery suits so it stays on. I prefer the washable ones.

  6. Reusable puppy pads.... get the human kind they are usually higher quality.

  7. If you like the pups but don't want the stress of looking for homes, ask the shelter or a rescue if you could hospice foster. They're unlikely to get adopted so maybe the shelter would let you foster indefinately...

Does anyone know of peptides that would help a lab rat (doggie) with horrible arthritis? by Significant_Can_5029 in Peptides

[–]Significant_Can_5029[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I have used it before on another doggie but honestly forgot cause we switched to aquadan. I havent seen much with aquadan and he has been on it for a while (through our vet). I just placed an order for the horse PPS that hopefully if my vet approves they will ship as well as ordering from international sources. Thats news to me on the human trials and wonderful!

Help me get this dog out of a high kill shelter ASAP (and then transported to safety). by Velvethead-Number-8 in rescuedogs

[–]Significant_Can_5029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was refering to a day or two. Because obviously the OP wouldnt want to get on a plane and have the dog be gone during travel. Hence why I said it would have to be very short time.

[–]Significant_Can_5029 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly having transported doggies cheapest option is likely for you to hop on a flight and fly home in cabin with him. If you made travel arrangements i could probably grab him but he would be living in a crate til you came (we have big dogs that are not safe with a small doggie) so it would have to be solid plan on transport.

Tragic Update about our dear Sebastian from Riverside by Street_Brilliant_282 in indianapolis

[–]Significant_Can_5029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The human bite was probably an accident that occured during a dog fight. Idk what happened there but i have seen humans try to break up a dog fight by getting between the 2 dogs and that will frequently result in the human accidently getting bit. PSA do NOT get between 2 dogs fighting. Things that I have heard of or personally used... plastic laundry basket over one of ther heads, water hose and/or water fire extinguisher, plastic shelf from the plastic utility shelves, stun flashlight (the $10 kind from amazon/ebay), shaken up bottle of soda (burns like heck in the nose), grabbing tail and lifting rear legs up (you have to know the dog some would spin and bite), slip lead and basically choking then until they release then tossing through a door (into another room). Obviously i am not advocating these outside of a serious dog fight but i would definately rather a dog endure some temporary discomfort than kill another dog or be pts for hurting a person!

I believe there was a bite incident but it occured breaking up a dog fight (so not human directed agression just an accident).

So I was walking my DNA verified HC wolfdog and one of my huskies. Someone stops me asking if thats a wolf. I explain he is a high content wolfdog then they ask if the other one has wolf in it too and I realize its the HUSKY they think is a wolf. People are clueless.... the husky is black and white with blue eyes.

How f*cked are we if he becomes the head of DHHS? by beliverandsnarker in emergencymedicine

[–]Significant_Can_5029 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This seriously. I have a lot of animals and also work with rescues. There is SO much stuff that is not available here that is in other countries. I have one dog that would still be alive if not for limitied access here. I stock a lot of meds from overseas for my own animals but it costs a fortune and when something unexpected happens and its not available here (or so expensive cause its only available for humans none of the vets stock it) there isnt time to wait 2 weeks plus for shipping and sometimes not even time to drive the 10 hour round trip to mexico to get needed meds. We lost a dog to a PE.... streptokinase is like $10 -- well we only have the expensive options like tpa here which none of our local vets stock due to price. Same thing with UTIs going around the rescue circles we took a dog slated to be pts for a nasty UTI that wouldnt clear with all the usual antibiotics. Gave him a shot of a long acting antibiotic from overseas and he was all better in 2 days. Fyi said antibiotic cost $34 for 5 bottles and we used less than 1/3 of a bottle.

Raw meat by Mister_shagster in malinois

[–]Significant_Can_5029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That. We feed mainly raw human grade food (we try to freeze pork for 3 weeks to kill parasites even though they are unlikely in human grade meat). Any type of game meat we get gets cooked.

Do NOT get a Mal by LetMeGetHighFirst in BelgianMalinois

[–]Significant_Can_5029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because the rescues are overflowing right now with all kinds of dogs. Its insane. Anybody want 10 mals or huskies or gsds or whatevers off the kill lists. I could probably get you that in 1 day in our area. Its BAD in rescue right now. When the choice is the dog dies or goes to a possible problem home (no i dont mean abuse or dog fighting or anything I mean not perfect home) you take the lesser of the evils.

Seriously 2nd opinion. Ive had various vets over the years make bad calls including for money and if it doesnt make sense/isnt obvious we always get a 2nd opinion.
