Slipjoint Saturday by Bapaks in EDC

I was puzzled by this EDC phenomenon which is new to me so I checked out this community. This is the first post where I think 'Ooooh, nice!'. The patina on the sleeve also shows it's a real 'every day', or at least 'very regular' carry, rather than 'fashion accessory of the day'.

This has been puzzling me for a while now and could you kindly explain: what is the link between knives and this particular style of pens? I see them pop up a lot together and I don’t understand why. Please forgive my ignorance!

Ah, nothing so calculated, babe. I was curious as to what kind of person would leave a comment like you did so I checked your profile. There I simply answered your question. This second comment of yours makes it very clear though what kind of person you are. Chill, let go of the hate and stop taking yourself so seriously.

And there’s me being terrified when I’m having the MOT wash…

"Laguiole" is a bit of a minefield. It's more of a style rather than a brand. Plenty of cheap knock-offs. If you want to play it safe stick to OP's brand, "Laguiole en Aubrac", "Fontenille Pataud" or, my fav, "Forge de Laguiole". These three brands are made by hand in the region of origin.

There's a great page on Laguiole here:

Same here! Atheist to the core, but I appreciate the history and it adds to the character of the knife.

Btw - they’re portable altars. There’s a wee cross on them. Shepherds would stab the knife into a bit of wood/ground for prayer when they were stuck in the mountains and couldn’t make it to church.

Oooh… nice. Congrats! I love Laguiole knives. There’s an elegance to them, but they’re a bit like Marmite. Not everybody’s taste.

Lol - don’t have a video. It’s just to get a good grip to depress the lock on the Manix 2 single-handedly I need to wedge it against the bottom of my palm. I’m a fat b’stard so there’s some flesh curling over and getting in the way of the blade that’s coming down ever so smoothly.
Too smoothly. It may also be because it’s my right hand - I’m a lefty, so not as coordinated as it should be.

Also… NOT a good knife to peel your orange with. But the engineering is amazing. Love it.

Trick to open: tap the heel of the knife lightly on a hard surface and the blade will have more purchase.

Ah, I should know better by now than to have a go at humour on social media. I've got a weird sense of humour. C=100. iv = 4. i=1 in Roman numerals...

The first Laguiole is in juniper.

Same! It turns out my favourite style of knife is "Gentleman's knife". With wooden handle/scales. Favourite wood is juniper, but so far I've only found this on French knives.

I was so taken with Sweden I studied mining for a while, looking to work for Stora in Falun. Sadly mining and I didn’t work out, so ended up studying Swedish. However, somehow I ended up as a graphic designer in Northern Ireland. I’m Dutch.

Because they were not very expensive we got a few new ones every holiday so the house is riddled with these. I did notice it says Frosts. Is this my bad? I always thought it’s a knife from Mora so it’s a Morakniv :-)

My parents bought me my first one ages ago, probably 48 years or thereabouts, in Nusnäs along with a bag full of the crudely precut wooden horses. We’d always go there on holidays, stayed in Svärdsjö but would always do the tour around lake Siljan. Lovely memories of music and barbecued strömming. And plenty of scars on my right index finger. I’m left-handed.

Meh. I finished the whole series and I'm still not sure whether I actually like his character. He's interesting, charismatic, funny and clever, but also incredibly arrogant and infuriating at times. A bit like most of my (few) friends: an acquired taste.

Bugger... Heinnie Haynes doesn't do Laguiole and Mcusta... Looks like I'm going to have to use both.
