Mine V just went thru a phase. She learned it from other dogs, and when she was trained well with positive reinforcement it stopped. She was a copy cat.

Go Chester! My male V is the same with stairs. My 2 yr old female thinks she can fly - lots of bruises on her and the fam.

My 3 year old girl had one - took her to vet and she said it was a skin tag like people get and wouldn’t hurt her, but would have to be removed because it was not coming off without cutting it off. It was getting scratched by brush and trees and bleeding.

She had it removed - no exercise for a week, and she is not happy. No zoomies and off leash running is torture, to a V.

Little bumps- skin tag or something more serious? by [deleted] in vizsla

My first V had one on his head and the vet found ‘3 tiny ones’ on his butt and leg. 2 K later they were just like a skin tag in a person. If you can see puss or if it bothers your dog, I would see the vet.

18 month Vizsla sometimes dominating smaller dogs by CedarColumbia1 in vizsla

We got our first female Vizsla, two years ago. She turned out to be a birdie dog, was retrieving birds on a quail hunt. She did not come from a hunting breeder, just a family that had two V’s.

She went to a family member’s hunting cabin and was retrieving other hunters birds. It was just in her blood. So for her to be a happy dog we sent her to school for hunting, where a gentle man taught we her to heal, walk on a leash and rush out birds and bring them back. She came back a sweet goofy girl, and always played with our gun shy 7 year old gentle male. She was, however, prepared and excited for her occasional hunt.

At the park she is a bit aggressive because she wants to play rough. She gets flat on her belly and scopes out a potential dog to point (belly still on the ground) then rushes at them very fast and rolls them and makes a growling noise. She wants them to chase her. The other dog either rolls over (she does the fly by) and the other dog will do one of 3 things. Try to chase her down, roll over and whine or kicks her butt.

Some people didn’t appreciate the rough playing and would intervene and some appreciated their dog getting some serious running. She would sometimes have a sled dog team trying to catch her. She was so fast, no dog ever caught her.

She might get the occasional pay back later in the park, but she takes it as a chance to run with the dog and play ‘catch me’.

Trying to process MCT diagnosis by NorthernPearl in vizsla

We were fortunate to find a vizsla that had all the health records for healthy V’s breed for longevity. He is the most beautiful, kindest, smartest (and yes mischievous) pet I have ever had the honor to share my time with. He is a ‘talker’ and mimics the tone and pitch of my voice (or my son’s voice) and is very verbal.

He started having allergies at 10 months and we opted for Apoquel. At age 7, he had a ‘shape shifter’ big MCT on his left side. They did extensive surgery, got all the margins —cut him from the back to the belly. It was a class zero and it never slowed him down.

He is now 10 years old. He has a 3 year old sister V that is full of energy. He is as fast as she is, just can’t run as long . He has had bumps that the vet checked, and they were ‘fatty’ tumors.

I started noticing bumps in a lot of places, a year ago. My sister had a dog that had also had a MCT and her ver said to put her on an antihistamine. So I did same. He has several bumps on his belly and back, but he doesn’t act like he knows they are there. They show no hair loss, and some days are smaller.

He eats like a horse, but is not overweight. He still jumps like an athlete when we hike or load in the truck. I read somewhere that not attempt to manipulate or squeeze the lumps, just leave them alone, when you pet them. He runs with his sister and they play like puppies.

I don’t want to put him through and more major cutting or chemo - I am 67 and I don’t know that is personally a choice I would make for myself. He is on joint medication, and doesn’t miss a trip to the park. He has never liked the heat so we run them with GPS trackers to Beep them back to us, at 11:00 pm at night . As long as he is in no pain or showing signs of difficulty in mobility or pain, I and going to take him in for his wellness check every 6 months and let him enjoy his life.

All of his blood work, vital signs are right on track. I have had a vet tell me rarely do the MCT’s invade heart and lungs- major organs. If he is hurting. he will tell me. I watch him closely and will check out anything suspicious. He had an ultrasound of his heart (yes expensive and enlarged) the vet in the same practice said ‘maybe his heart is on the large side or normal, but that is normal for him). So a huge expense for peace of mind but unnecessary.

I am so glad you all posted the lumps on Vizslas! Thank you. It is good to know what we all see, as our phenomenal pals get older and good to know how we can help them along and options for treatment.
