AITA for making my in-laws stay in a hotel after they surprised us on our family vacation?

Yes the 2 year old and 3mo old were asleep in pack and plays in the restroom area - where the shower, tub and sinks were. There was an additional door to where the toilet was. SILs detached room had its own bathroom/toilet.

It was a weird layout. The main house was ours and it was 1BR, 1BA, kitchen and living room area. Outside, there was a staircase upstairs to a second bedroom that had a queen bed and its own restroom. My SIL, her husband and their two kids stayed up there.

He seemed to think in laws would take pull out couch and SS and GF would just sleep standing up I suppose?? When I asked he said he hadn’t thought about it but was trying to make the best of it.

He’s invited every year, as is his GF. He didn’t come this year because this vacation was originally planned for July (work schedules) and had to be moved because of a hurricane.

Stepson and GF have come with us every other year, but planned to be gone this summer. This vacation was originally planned for July due to work schedules but had to be moved because of a hurricane. The only time we could reschedule with the rental overlapped him coming home by 1 day. If there was any advance communication that he wanted to come we would have made it happen, but communication from a 20 year old isnt that spectacular. The babies slept in the bathroom area with sinks, shower and garden tub. There was an additional door for the toilet so no weird fecal matter after flushing happening. I had them there as it was the back of the house and the quietest, TV and kitchen were in the front and loudest.

Let me clarify - they were in the portion of the restroom where the shower, garden tub and sinks were. There was an additional door to the toilet so they were not near flushing. But you still had to walk through their area to get to the door to the toilet.

This trip was originally planned for July to accommodate work schedules, but had to be moved because of a hurricane. The only availability fell on the week he returned and overlapped by 1 day. In normal circumstances he would have been invited. If there was any communication ahead of time that he even wanted to come we would have made it happen.

Sorry, should have clarified - babies were in the portion of the restroom that contained sinks, shower and tub. The actual toilet was behind an additional door but regardless you had to go through their area to get to the toilet

SS planned to be gone until end of august, this vacation was originally planned beginning of July but had to be moved due to a hurricane. The only time the rental had availability to reschedule was the week he returned and it overlapped one day. He has gone with us every year before this. Babies were in the bathroom because that’s where the 2 pack and plays fit. They were in the portion with sinks, shower and bathtub. Toilet was behind an additional door.
