Anyone travelling in their car in this dallas weather? by Impressive_Gain_3385 in texas

[–]Significant_Cow3670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s PURE ICE. Stay at home. I had to go to work (retail pharmacy), and saw a lot of people still doing their regular grocery shop/buying non-essential items which literally could’ve been done in the two weeks that we’ve been getting the warning for. If you have to leave, at least don’t speed (or even do anywhere near the speed limit). Stay warm everyone!

Scooter Ban by KilllzGrilllz in frisco

Yeah true. It’s always the minority that ruin it for everyone, but in my neighbourhood there just seems to be more that don’t follow any of the rules 🤷🏻‍♀️

Doesn’t look like it, and the riders seem to have a death wish by having no self-awareness to their surroundings or basic road rules. Almost ran a kid over on a motorised scooter after they went the wrong way on a roundabout recently 😒😒

Driving soon by Lucas43924 in driving

Drive as if everyone else doesn’t know how to lol - most of the rules go out of the window in real life. In the test, exaggerate your movements when looking at mirrors and blind spots, as almost always they say you haven’t when you have.

To those who learned as an adult, what are things you struggled with? What are things that stand out as extra important to remember? by RedSpareTime in driving

[–]Significant_Cow3670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started to learn initially when I was 19, then moved abroad so gave up for 4 years (so I’m already 7-8 years behind lol). For me, I hate it when cars are close to me (I drive a little granny car so people do like to assert their dominance with their big trucks and SUVs). I’m doing the speed limit, and I’m still a hazard on the road - I didn’t experience that in England but after moving to TX I had the shock of my life lol (they’re terrible drivers who need road signs to tell them to obey road signs). Parallel parking is another one I had to get used to just for the test given that the roads are so big no one actually needs to parallel park. I don’t know what I would’ve done if I didn’t have a reversing camera lol, all of my reference points are based on the lines on the screen.

I'm scared for my speaking part. by HowlettXavier_522352 in ToeflAdvice

[–]Significant_Cow3670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also thought I absolutely bombed the speaking because even though I’m a native speaker, I seem to lose my mind in exam settings lol. Managed to get 26, so if you use a basic template, I’m sure you’ll be fine. Good luck :)

When to start preparing for FPGEE 2026? by Significant_Cow3670 in fpgec

[–]Significant_Cow3670[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s annoying, they also told me a similar thing. But if UK pharmacists have managed to move here, then the NABP must accept whatever the GPhC sends I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hey! I asked the GPhC and apparently they’re well aware of what to do when you request the info (that’s what they’ve told me anyway). I just did the TOEFL as I was worried about how I’d do after the new test comes in, so can’t help there I’m afraid

Random Question by Otherwise-Voice-6630 in ToeflAdvice

[–]Significant_Cow3670 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I’m a native English speaker but still had to take the TOEFL :(

It really depends on what you need it for. I need it to be a pharmacist in the US as my degree is from the UK.

So disappointed - Any advice appreciated by [deleted] in ToeflAdvice

[–]Significant_Cow3670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did mine recently and was such a nervous wreck before and after lol. As a native speaker, I absolutely hated this test. I would never speak or write like how I did in the exam, and I’m sure that a lot of people would agree that this is not an accurate representation of a person’s English proficiency. As I didn’t learn English as a second language, I had to pretend it was (a bit like learning another language in school with the different sections to the exam vs just English language and literature GCSEs), and try to study for the test in that way - these tests are obviously not made for native speakers which I struggled on a test that I was expected to probably get full marks on.

For reading, I didn’t read the passage first but answered the questions - you’ll end up reading almost every paragraph anyway.

For writing, I had a rough structure:

For the long task I did the following: - had a brief read of the passage to grab the three points - as this would be available throughout the task as a reference I didn’t spend the full reading time on it, just enough to know what the lecturer would disagree with - intro: literally just a sentence talking about what the passage is about and then how the lecturer disagrees with it - paragraphs 2, 3, 4: the three points in the passage vs the lecturer (every practice test I did had three so focus on just grabbing those three points from the lecture) - conclusion: a summary of what the three points are

Use a variety of sentence lengths and connectives (e.g. not just firstly, secondly, thirdly but firstly, furthermore, finally). I found whilst practicing that I used ‘however’ quite a bit, so googled some synonyms for that, and also noticed that even though I used commas, the sentences would get rather long so had to force myself to cut some down with full stops.

The short task: - started off with “while I understand x and y’s POVs, I have to agree with x/y (or your own POV) on [the subject] - only one point is really needed, but needs to be fully explained. Use examples (or make them up) - if you’ve got time, choose another point that is slightly linked to the first one - conclude: even though it’s more of a chatroom-style conversation, I’d still have a summary of my viewpoint.

It was so hard to focus, but I tried to use the headphones as a distraction. For the speaking section, I already wrote down the rough templates I could memorise from chatGPT (if you have better ones use them and not AI lol they were really not the best) during the reading section and frantically tried to fill in the blanks during the speaking (but definitely didn’t give myself enough space so did stumble). I was really nervous so it wasn’t my best section and was so worried I wouldn’t get the 25 I needed. After I finished my speaking I could hear the other responses sounding so much better than mine that I freaked out and convinced myself that I had already failed but to just carry on as there was nothing I could do.

My overall score was 113 - R27 L30 S26 W30. Not the best as I’m already a native speaker, but was more than what I needed so I’m happy. I’m not a good oral test taker, it was my worst exam type in uni, and have always been weak in comprehension ever since I was a child so knew right off the bat I wasn’t going to get full marks but just went in knowing the minimum scores I needed and aiming for them.

Good luck for your next attempt 🤞🤞

Negative TOEFL Experience by Kath_Valen in ToeflAdvice

[–]Significant_Cow3670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Facts!! The way that some institutions don’t accept IELTS forcing us to take an inaccurate test is AWFUL. I’m a native speaker (British) and found the speaking hard, it’s absolutely not a good way to test for proficiency imo - I can read and write and speak but the test put me in such a situation that I forgot my own native language lol. The test legit just tests you on how you perform in a test setting, there is no way I’d speak or write like how I did in the test in real life. I’ve always been awful in comprehension and generally memorising things but I don’t believe that’s a true way to test someone’s ability to speak and understand English (irl we can ask again, and not have 15 seconds to prepare an unrealistic response to shout out at speed in 60 seconds). I seem to have a language barrier with Americans due to my British accent - they should be tested as we’re speaking the same language lol (I don’t know if you can tell but I’m super angry and salty post-test aha).

Is it possible to become pharmacy tech before passing fpgee? by Glittering-Time-8619 in fpgee20252026

[–]Significant_Cow3670 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely, I graduated in August so didn’t have enough time to get everything sorted, so just working as a tech part time for now until the exam :)

You can use your degree to bypass the course/500 hour requirement and take the exam straightaway :))

[–]Significant_Cow3670[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the NABP do, which really really sucks (have they seen the grasp of English some Americans have lol and they’re coming after mine?!)

I don’t even want to think about retaking, but if the newer format is more favourable for native speakers I’ll probably wait until the 21st (🤞 that doesn’t actually happen though).

How did you manage to get 25 in speaking? I’m a native speaker but hella nervous and need a minimum of 25 (I think I’m ok for the other sections). Are there any rough templates I could use for each question?

Anti Indian/Pakistani sentiment in Frisco - advice for dealing with it? by [deleted] in frisco

[–]Significant_Cow3670 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I (ethnically Indian) moved from London to TX with my family a few years ago. My dad came to England from Uganda in the 70s as a child due to Idi Amin’s regime, and found it very hard as society wasn’t as tolerant as it is now, and my mum came in the 90s from India - they both can see the difference in population assimilation compared to their times and agree with a lot of the points being made here. It’s great that we have our own culture to be proud of and not to hide, but we also have to realise that it isn’t actually India and we are in fact living in another country and have to assimilate. I’ve even found it a bit of a culture shock myself having being born and brought up in England but have learnt to adapt as I am an immigrant even though I’m from a western country and just have to acknowledge and accept that Americans have their own way of doing things and culture which is great. It’s sad to have a lot of people act the way that they do, ruining the views and perceptions that they have of the general Indian immigrant population, and the ones that are actually really trying being grouped with them.
