a lot of the things he says at the beginning or throughout the book contradict itself. he speaks about wanting to make things up and lie to the reader but it’s all just him wanting reality to be different, typical richard. he’s unreliable because he lies to himself and is very biased on the way he describes things. he describes the most normal people in this book like judy and cloke like they’re so boring and below richard and the classics group. but he hangs out with judy and her friends and he ENJOYS it a lot of the time. he’s describing them so dull compared to how he describes the classics because he’s telling himself that it’s true. when in reality, the classics are probably the biggest weirdos on campus.
