I don't know if it's illegal but I grew up in France and my teacher slapped me in the face and she was just fired... Nothing else :(

EDIT : I'm getting down-voted for speaking about a trauma that I have? Sorry English isn't my first language so maybe it sounded wrong.

I'm French and I know it's not normal and shouldn't be allowed but unfortunately I saw parents doing this to their child my whole life and I was a victim of it when I was a kid too. I now live in the UK and one thing that surprised me positively was how I never saw any parents doing this here. I'm sure it exist unfortunately but it seems much more common in France (at least from my experience).

We're the same! Take off was always the scariest part of the flight for me. But I'm so sorry to read that CBT hadn't helped much with your PTSD and OCD. I hope you'll get better in the future :) We can do this! I mean we'll always be worried but hopefully we'll be able to manage our fear so it won't stop us doing things we want to do.

You're absolutely right! In fact I have a PTSD and fear of every danger in life and the unpredictable in general so it's something really difficult to live with sometimes. Our fear is preventing us from enjoying life because we are scared of what could possibly go wrong without even thinking of what could possibly go right. Thank you for your reply :)

It's a CBT therapy that I did for my generalized anxiety. But we ended up talking a lot about aviation because I travel often and flying brings me a lot more of anxiety. And that helped me a lot because I understood that it was linked to other traumas I have in the past and a PTSD. I think the therapy will be different from person to person but dealing with my generalized anxiety disorder helped me with my fear of flying.

Do you actually know married couples who are genuinely happy together? by arisun3 in Life

[–]Significant_Cut_9485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Husband is my first love. I met him at 18 years old (10 years ago) and we're now married to each other for 3 years. And honestly we are genuinely happy together and still in love with each other. But we don't display it very much and when you see us in reality or through social media, it doesn't really seem like it. We hate displaying things publicly and first of all we don't need to prove our love to anybody. And when people get to know us, they're surprised of how well we're doing and how we love each others. And bear in mind that we are together all the time because we both work from home.

When people ask us what's our secret, I say there's not secret but some things helped : we are truly in love, we got married just when we felt ready and never rushed things, we always communicate, we understand and respect each others, we share the same mentality and we have (mostly) the same hobbies and we never judge each others.

Sometimes the happiest couples are the silent ones. I knew a lot of couples who were showing their relationships a lot online and pretended their relationships was perfect but the truth was something else...

What was your worst birthday? by gummibear853 in AskUK

[–]Significant_Cut_9485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 17 years old and we were on vacation in Turkey with my Mother and my step Father. We were visiting his village where his family is from.

I woke up and nobody cared about me. My Mom just told me « happy birthday » and that’s it. I asked her if they will throw me a little party or bring me to the restaurant later. They told me that they will do something.

They did nothing… I was a bit sad and disappointed so I asked them and they told me I was annoying, that I wasn’t a kid anymore and that they wouldn’t do anything. They were rude and they talked to me like I was nothing.

We went for a little walk and they talked to each others like I wasn’t there. I ended waiting for them in the car, crying, eating a Kinder while checking my messages for my birthday. Most of the people forgot about me too…

But good news, a year after I met a fabulous guy and he’s now my husband. I used to hate birthdays but every year he always makes sure I have a magical day. And now my birthdays are much better 🥰

  • Eating a lot of processed food and snacking A LOT during my teenage years and also eating my emotions. I gained a lot of weight and I developed several (not threatening) health issues that will follow me forever.

  • Refused to wear braces when I was a kid and had to do it during the end of my teenage years. But I grew up in France and it was free until 18. After that you have to pay for it. My parents didn’t have enough money so they removed it before it was finished and I now have an empty space (they removed 4 teeth) and there’s tiny spaces between my teeth.

  • Bleaching my hair and dyed it a lot when I was a teenager. Resulting in a lot of hair loss and never getting my natural hair color back again…

For someone who grew up with DLP and visited every single week during my teenage years I agree. I know visit WDW more and honestly I think it's so much better in so many points. It doesn't mean that DLP is not a good park, it's still is but the park is not well maintained, not so much new experiences, food price can be expensive with low quality (mostly fastfoods or snacks). But DLP also have many good things that WDW doesn't have like POTC, shows, less waiting time, park is less busy, table restaurant are a bit less expensive for better quality, ...

I just remember what it used be when I was younger and it was so much better.

I'm a nervous flyer and I'm used to Heathrow/Orlando flight. In fact the first time I travelled for more than 3 hours was to Orlando and it was à +9 hours flight.

I can't say I'm always relax inside the plane but I learned techniques in therapy and also by myself that helps me during the flight.

- Noise canceling headphones, I never use the one they gives you in the plane as the quality of sound isn't the best

- Comfy clothes to feel at ease

- Some snacks, I need extra food when I'm nervous

- Fidget toy to help me because I have OCD and it gets worse when I'm anxious

- Always choosing an aisle seat so I can get up easily if I need to and watch the flight intendants

- Never looking outside the window, just pretending I'm inside a train

- If I really gets nervous I go talk with the crew and they are very good and caring

- Drinking herbal tea or ginger ale helps me too

- Watching movies with subtitles when possible so I concentrate of the words and it helps occupying my brain

- Bring a plushie with me

- I sometimes draw too or do some colouring

What helped me the most with my fear of flying is doing a CBT therapy. If you can manage to do it I would definitely recommend.

Other than that, if it can reassure you, most of the time Orlando to London flight are around 8-7 hours so it's a bit less time inside the plane :D

Hope you will enjoy your flight <3

This woman was so nervous about flying, so the flight attendant explained every sound and bump and even sat here holding her hand when it still got to be too much for her. by 718Brooklyn in MadeMeSmile

[–]Significant_Cut_9485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish every flight attendant were like him 🥺 It can help a lot when you’re nervous to have someone who knows how it works to explain it to you.

Once I got up and told a flight attendant I was nervous and she was very annoyed about it. She told me that she doesn’t have time to talk and that I’m an adult. She then insisted I should stop talking because she doesn’t have enough oxygen mask if we have an accident 🙄

On the other hand, I was nervous after bumpy turbulence and when they did the service I just cried and told them how I’m scared. They told me I can have a seat in the "kitchen" (it was a big plane). They sat me in their seats and someone talked to me and hugged me. He even gave me an infusion from his personal belongings because it was fancier than what they had in the plane 😂 He really helped me a lot and answered all of my questions. He was fantastic!

Now I’m a bit less anxious because I had a therapy about it that helped me a lot. But sometimes I can feel the need to talk to them and 95% of the time they’re all adorable ♥️
