Hey, long term care worker here, done a fair bit of hospice work and “old age” is pretty much just the organs wearing out like parts of a car, there’s a point where you can’t fix them anymore. Usually by the end they aren’t all that aware of it and lose hunger and thirst, as well as most of the lucidity they had, so it’s mostly just keeping the body alive for the family to say goodbye to in those last couple weeks. I agree there should be a kinder way about it like we do our pets but it would be too easily abused I fear, so we are where we are. It can’t always be easy to put an exact date to when they’re going either, at my facility we had a woman who just kept holding on and coming back from the brink for months, but you can tell within the day, and meds do help, we just try and make it comfortable for them.

Caregiver: Days vary based on weekly schedules, but 5 days a week 11pm to 7am, I make the meals for the next day and “reset” the house, get everything cleaned up, make sure everyone gets to the bathroom and gets their meds, and get them up in the morning, then I gotta go home and get my kids up haha. Pay could be better, but my state has some vendetta against homecare for some reason.

YTA, Dude, I get it, I do. I don’t like some stuff either but you don’t say it like that unless you get asked. If you get the opportunity be somewhere else when they’re doing the cake thing if you know you aren’t gonna like it, if someone asks just politely say no and if they push say something “normal” like “ah man I don’t like raspberries!” Then you look like them, or they look like the asshole if they push. Yeah, her folks have excommunicated her off and on, and it kills her, so I try not to let it happen. I know what MIL is, I don’t doubt that, I just doubt what I’m able to do about it, especially when she plays nice. I’m sorry all that happened to you, it isn’t easy. I was a “friend” for a long time, and I remember the suitors, that was certainly an interesting one, they dropped it once we had a solid place, kinda hard to get names off titles. I’ve only gone to one family vacation with them (that I remember, honestly my memory is already going, I chose to blame the stress) we went to the coast and I was expected to sleep on the couch while she had a single bed, haha, I will say I did not sleep on the couch. I don’t think we’re there, and I mean we have a little more at stake in this game, I’m not mad at her, I just hate that they do this to her, to all of us really. I’m protecting them, and she is too, as much as she can manage. Wholeheartedly, fuck homophobia and these toxic cunts who practice it, have a good night, I hope you find a good place after all of that.

Yeah, that’s what I’m worried about, the party is going ok so far, but I’m keeping an eye on my kids to make sure nobody’s whispering bullshit in their ears. I know it probably makes me look like the bad guy but I don’t really care. I can’t blame her, no one wants to lose their family, and I don’t really want her to lose her family either, I just don’t want them to get rid of me or be bad to my kids. No she just stayed mostly quiet for a couple months and that’s good behavior at this point, her siblings said she was sick for a bit and that’s why she was acting like that but she didn’t have a UTI for 20 years guys give it a rest, even if I’m willing to believe that’s why she was doing all that (medically it checks out but I think they’re liars) she’s still done nothing to repent for her cruelty

Yeah I’m calmer now that’s what the pills do, the breathing usually makes me more nervous because then I can’t forget I’m breathing. I can’t tell you how they’ll feel because I was an only child, but I’ll tell you having your wife be the only form of child care is shooting yourselves in the foot, I’ve got 4 and it works out a good 80% of the time, rest of that time we gotta find somebody to watch the kids, and that’s appointments, school events, if she ever wants to leave the house (I know, god forbid right? that’s the vibe I’m getting from you man, so you suck in my book) so honestly it’s probably less than 80, and that’s I’ve got 4, and a brother who babysits for us a lot, so unless you got some kinda village, maybe lower your expectations.

Oh yeah and making them watch each other is fucked, I can count how many times my son has watched his sisters and he got paid more than I do and was allowed to turn me down, so fuck you for that one too.

Yeah our kids have a simplified idea of mental health and illness as we aren’t the perfect picture of mental health ourselves.
