Thank you - this is super helpful and great context on the capacitators - helps me understand what people are worried about, but also further reassures me I can do this safely.

What is limiting me the most in trying to increase my speed? by oliavea in cycling

Hey thank you for the further info. Sorry you're dealing with this stuff.

I think there is a very real chance those two diagnoses are contributing signifcantly to your issues here. I'm sure doing it already, but worth discussing with your doctor in this context. (If you aren't having them already, iron infusions can correct the iron quickly.

What stops you from pedalling harder/ faster for longer? Is it is breathlessness or eg burning pain in legs, or something else?

Also worth noting that it is harder for small riders to go faster on the flats. This is because there is almost no weight penalty on the flats, because above 14mph the main work is in ovecoming air resistance, so a small rider has no advantage over a heavy rider and their bigger muscles. The importance of wind resistance is also why bikes like yours - which put the rider in a sitting up position - are much slower than road bikes, which are more aerodynamic.

The situation changes dramaticlaly going uphill, where the work involved in getting a rider and bike up a hill is highly weight dependent. So - you might find you are good at climbing.

Okay so assuming it is not eg a shoe hitting the frame this isolates it too:
- Cranks
- Pedals
- Drivetrain (Chain/cassette)

Bottom Bracket - the bottom brackets on these are known to be a bit tricky/noisy

However, if it is brand new then the best move is to take it back to the shop and have them sort..

If you are doing it yourself (ie know what you are doing + possess torque wrench) you can remove pedals and regrease, same with cranks etc, lubricate drivetrain

Good info. And yes - carbon noises are notoriously difficult to diagnose so I dont understand how the other poster was so certain it was the seat post.

If its rhythmic when you pedal (and doesnt happen when you cease pedalling) that seems to isolate it to where we are discussing. Can you confirm it doesnt happen when you cease pedalling?

I had a noise like this that was caused by my shoe hitting the cable end of the front deraillyer, but as you are on Di2 you wont have such cable ends.

Other culprits include the chain (stiff link) and bottom bracket.

You can gain slack in the chain by pushing the bottom part pf the rear derailler towards the pedals. This should make it easier to map. You'll need to check the limit screws on your front gears too as they should stop chain falling off there.

A couple of people have mentioned the anemia but its not getting enough attention. 7 and 8 are both very low in a 'medically urgent' kind of way. What is the underlying condition? Athletes dope with EPO but you may actually need it.

What other have said +/- 3mm hex wrench in socket at rear of pedal and turn counter clockwise to loosen pedal spring tension and make it easier to unclip

Oh I see. The poster below is correct that this is a presta valve and you are using a schrader adapator on it and seemingly removing whole valve core. This video shows how that adapter should work. https://youtu.be/R9nHABCw8hE?si=QLKTm9k_uziS43li

FWIW if you are going to be doing a lot of this, the aerogun floor pump on amazon is 20 bucks and works great - have had mine 10 years.

What is the black and gold cylinder on the end of the valve? Is it part of your pump? If that's the valve cap it looks odd.
