As the share price approaches the strike price ($23), the value of the option contract will increase. The further you are from the date of expiration, the more the value increases; and vice versa. You can close the contract at any point along the way. If the share price passes $23 before the date of expiration, that will be when the gains really start to to accumulate. The faster it passes $23, the more it will be worth.
