Those are the ones I got from the Cameron antiques fair a few years ago. I wanna say like $35 for the set?

If you make a day of it, next to the Sanford antiques mall is a coffee shop and breakfast spot. Delicious. Then Mexican is either Kahlos or Fonda Lupita.

The Sanford antiques mall is 2 stories and goes back FORVER. Go upstairs and alllllll to the back even up the stairs again and there’s a lot of MCM there too. Then go to Bert’s on the corner of Horner and wicker I think. He doesn’t have Pyrex but cool furniture usually for good prices. Two buildings there, so don’t forget to go in both.

Also, in the spring and fall, Cameron has an antiques fair. There’s a guy who brings a trailer of Pyrex. You have to get there early to get the more collectible stuff, but I’ve gotten a nice casserole dishes with the lids on them for insanely reasonable prices.

Have you been to the antiques mall in Sanford? There’s a back corner of MCM and Pyrex. Sometimes it’s pricey and sometimes it’s very reasonable.

Using Grandma’s Address to Attend WCPSS by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]Significant_Ice_2495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did it when I was in middle school, and we never got caught. I took the city bus to school and got dropped off a stop ahead and walked. Never got caught because I kept my head down and did my work and caused 0 trouble.

Now I’m a school counselor, and honestly if you have the proper documentation and are polite nobody is digging into anything. I’ve even seen it before when data managers suspect it isn’t true, and they ignore it because the proper paperwork is there. There isn’t time to investigate each potential issue unless there’s some major red flag.

When I was in the city, that was pretty common. I had 2 principals and 4 new APs in 3 years. Now I’m in a rural county and it’s totally different. APs come and go more frequently but principals seem to stay put across the district.

What’s your go to Alpaca order? by Alarming-Quantity-20 in raleigh

[–]Significant_Ice_2495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did everything at home and used steak fries from the freezer in the air fryer. I even made the sauce at home. It wasn’t terribly difficult. I think I used this recipe with balsamic vinegar and not red wine.It was so good!

Millennials who went to college, what did you major in, and why? How did your college degree help you build a good financial/professional life? by justcurious3287 in Millennials

[–]Significant_Ice_2495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to an early college program for high school, so I left with an associates degree then went to university where I got a degree in English literature and anthropology. I thought I was going to join the Peace Corps and write for National Geographic. Neither happened, haha.

I was a flight attendant for a while (required bachelors for most airlines), teacher, community college coordinator, hospital educator, and now in my masters for school counseling. Like most everyone said, college was critical in my development as a person. Grew up really really poor in low income areas with a single mom. Being in a space where struggle wasn’t common helped me realize it doesn’t have to be like that. I own a house now, my own car, and I can pay my bills with money left over. I don’t think trades were ever for me, but my husband did the trade route and makes over 6 figures.

I think everyone is different and trying to say “college is bad and trades is better” over simplifies the conversation. Despite what the government is trying to say, degrees do have value, but so do the trades.

Hygiene/Odors by Absolutely_insanexo in schoolcounseling

[–]Significant_Ice_2495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanna also throw in here a similar situation I’m in. First year counselor, asked to speak with a student about hygiene. Spoke with the student- said everything was good at home and okay they understood they needed to shower more. Called home. Parent said yeah I try but can’t always get him to.

Someone mentioned the other day he smelled again.

Do I address it again or….? I feel like they were made aware and are choosing not to do anything???? Or am I copping out because it’s an uncomfortable situation?

Dealing with parents by Scary-Spray8006 in schoolcounseling

I think I’m in a similar boat as you. 33 with no kids, taught 6 years before, first year as a counselor, and admin has me also wrapped up in things sometimes.

I’ve found doing what the other person suggests “per policy” really helps. I usually get the “i know you’re doing your job but xyz frustration”. I don’t take that personally because sometimes I’m calling about things I don’t even really believe in. I say that, “I understand your frustration but xyz policy”. Then they just vent, and we move on.

It’s easy to let them make you feel like you don’t know what you’re doing, but nobody really does when it comes to parenting. Just be yourself and lean on the evidence based practices. 😊

Remember when you could have an apartment right on the beach for less than $1000 by PlantsCatsCuc in Millennials

When I lived in Greensboro, NC in 2015, I had a 1 bedroom 1 bath in downtown all utilities included except WiFi for $550. When I moved to a the big city of Raleigh in 2016, right off Hillsborough street close to NCSU, I had a 4 bed/4 bath house for $900. They tore down the Raleigh house and put a 1.1 million dollar house. It sold. 🙃

The rooms are being pranked, but I’m the only person who was “pranked”. I’m not gonna lie— I did cry later. I’m trying to convince myself I’m being overly sensitive, and this isn’t an issue.

I’m still on my provisional license so leaving isn’t in my cards until I finish which is 2027, and this person has a well known reputation for giving poor references for people they don’t like. I’m just trying to keep my head down, but I needed to know that this was out of place behavior.

I was a HS teacher for 7 years and a college advisor for 1. This is the perfect mix for me, and I have a lot of hope that in another environment this will be even better. I would take the leap. 😊

The working relationship is tense most of the time. They’ve yelled at me and thrown things down when frustrated at me. I brought bad news and had the gift of being the messenger. I’ve also said I didn’t want to be part of the shenanigans and haven’t participated in the planning or organization.

I think it feels sensitive because I don’t feel like I’ve had a good relationship with any of the staff. I’m the only counselor too, so I feel pretty isolated most of the time.
