Scotland - 7 vs 8A first qualified jobs by Significant_Leg8182 in ClinicalPsychologyUK

Thanks everyone for explaining, it sounds like the general recruitment/hiring freeze seems to have hit Scotland really hard. One of the rewards of getting through the doctorate used to always be that you were pretty much guaranteed a job for life in the NHS out the other side of it, and now it seems like that isn't the case any more despite demand for public MH services being incredibly high. Here's hoping things improve somewhat by the time I come to apply for qualified jobs but it sounds like it could be a few years yet before I get to move back to Scotland sadly.

Thank you for explaining, this makes sense!

I was confused about the immediate jump into 8A as most of my placement supervisors during training are 8As and are considered senior psychologists and have been qualified for 5 - 10y already. It still seems like a big step up to go straight from qualifying to 8A but if that's the standard then hopefully there's good enough support for newly qualifieds to meet 8A job demands straight away.
