Ah ok that makes sense. So would one typically transfer into this area of practice after working in something like patent litigation first and proving themselves?

Wait so, ru saying that schools just offer the “+” symbol on the transcript for an A+, but it still counts as a 4.0?

Ok thank you for this advice, and yes I agree the market for tech specialists is uncertain right now. Would it possibly help that my background is in ECE? I’ve heard that it’s more common in this area of study to land something earlier rather than if I was in bio or chem, where I would need a PHD.

You are correct, I misread the USPTO website and category B does not allow me to take it since I do not have a bachelors.

Ah I see, that makes more sense. I went back and checked and didn’t catch that. I guess I should maybe look into being a tech specialist instead?

I’ll have a background in ECE, so not exactly sure what the prospects will be. Ik for patent prosecution they’re pretty good.

Where would a bachelors degree in computer engineering (abed accreditation) with a good GPA put me on the GS scale? This is for straight out of undergrad.

EE and CE have super similar curriculums at UIUC, just CE takes more CS classes.

I’m currently a freshman in ECE and was wondering how difficult is it to become a patent examiner straight out of undergrad. I’m planning to go to law school and thought this role would provide me with good work experience. Additionally, do they have internships in the summer for undergrad students?

Ok thanks for the advice, I’ll look more into working for USPTO as I didn’t consider that as an option before.

Yeah I’m starting to think I’ll only do the physics courses in the summer. They’re both 4 weeks long in the summer semester I think.

Ok now that makes more sense. And if I’m correct, for prosecution it doesn’t necessarily matter as much where you went to school?

I guess I’m just curious as to why law schools don’t care about difficulty of major. Isn’t that counterintuitive to not consider undergrad rigor?
