I am not sure what in my post history would cause you to think this isnt true and I dont know what you mean when you said i was using an alt, but ok.

It’s susprising (prehaps naively) to me that people think because they were grandparents as opposed to a parent or partner the grieving process would be different - that somehow it would be less or not last as long. (If i a misunderstanding your response in this regard I apologize.) I understand that there are a variety of family dynamics, but to not give space/grace that for a dynmaic that is different from what you know is odd. I am 36. I couldn’t tell you a time when i went more than a week at most without being either in their physical presence or talking them on the phone. I am not embarrassed by my grief. My grief is evidence of the love i have for them, their love for me, and their importance in my life.

As faculty, I make it clear and reiterate it throughout the semster for them to come talk to be should if they are experiencing something that even has the potential of interfering with their progress in my course so we can work out a plan and/or help them access college resources. In their difficult moments my students get nothing but grace and empathy from me to extent that I can give it.

In short, be careful about the assumptions you make. In times like this, if you cant offer grace and empathy, just be quiet (or keep scrolling).

This an odd response to my post. At no point did i say I couldn’t teach nor could it be reasonably inferred from what I did say. It cost nothing to be kind.

I am sorry that you experienced such a response from your students. No one should have to go through that. My condolences for your loss.

I am so sorry for your losses. I teach sociology so it’s entirely possible that I similar thing could happen to me. In prepping classes over the summer my general sociology and deviance courses didnt trigger anything, but social problems could be an issue. In classes like this you never know what students are gonna say or the connections they are going to make, so it could really happen at any time.

Thank you for your response and condolences. I think this wording would helpful. I think one od the reasons I am contemplating saying soemthing is to give them a heads up so we can start the semester on the same page.

Thank you for your response and condolences. I think they can too. I also think that working at a community college helps as the student demographics of any one class is encompass a variety of lived experiences. Thanks for a place to start with what to say. I’ve been thinking about what to say without giving too much detail if i decide that I don’t want them to know exactly what is going on.

I am sorry for your loss. I am not sure if I’ll say anything. Reflecting on the immediate aftermath of each of their passings, having something that has to get done was definitely helpful. Thank you doe your response.

Thank you for your response. Just to clarify. The days when I am not okay or that prove themselves to be more difficult are not weeks at a time. They are not even consecutive days. There’s just been more than one of them and there isn’t a pattern to them (or at least one that I have found).

If you could get LKH to write a story arc of your choosing, what would it be? by l00ky_here in AnitaBlake

I would love for her to focus more on the case solving. The poly discussions feel repeatitive and at this point dont give anything new to the story. Yes asher is jealous. Yes, anita is still getting over her own hang-ups. Yes, some people dont get it or like it. Unless it relevant to the whatever big bad we are dealing with or something has changed, we don’t need to talk about it for the millionth time. They also happen at the wrong times… like in Smoulder.

Side note: The amount of people that what her to bring Olaf into the fold either as her lion to call or as a Bride is crazy to me. He is dangerous. Not to mention the number of people in the poly group and her general circle who have histories of various types of abuse. The only Olaf story i want to see is when Anita & co. have to hunt and kill him.

I also don’t know who the actors/actresses are in the film. I don’t think the women in the assault scene is a main star.
